  1. The red looks great. I guess you got the hang of the airbrush alright. Great going.
  2. Mile, Beautiful work. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Drazen, Thanks for posting these.
  3. You might try softening the brass as it work hardens when you work on it. Heat it red hot and let it cool.
  4. I've not seen that method. There was a builder on MSW 1.0 and I think did a bit here on 2.0 who was building a destroyer or cruiser using printing plates, which are thin metal. I'm not finding it... so I'm not sure he did carry it over.
  5. I'll join the chorus. That is beautiful work. Very well done, sir. Pop a few buttons and be proud of it.
  6. I've used spray mount (3M product) but it doesn't give you a whole lot of time to fix it. If it's that brittle, rubber cement might work. Put it on the mounting surface and then put the plan down on it. The problem is, any adhesive will probably grab pretty quickly. Have you tried contacting Model Expo and see if they have the old ones available?
  7. Bob, If you're using IE 11, roll back to IE 10. For some bizarre reason, IE 11 and the forum software are incompatible at this point.
  8. Hi Jason, I used basswood for the galleries (from local hobby/craft shop). My references were pictures of the actual ship and then kind of winged it from there. I cut out the top and bottoms as mirror images (port to starboard) and then fashioned them together. A bit fiddly but it was fun and very satisfying when they were done. Don't use balsa as it's too flimsy and easily damaged. The only time I use it is for prototyping. I used it on the galleries to get the shapes right before cutting the basswood.
  9. Sjors the master... planking, ratlines, and now crow's feet!!!!
  10. Guys, There was a glitch in the system that has since been addressed: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/6021-server-maintenance-scheduled/ Unfortunately, the lost photos will need to be re-uploaded.
  11. Yep, the quarter galleries are crap. As I see it you can clean up the brass (I don't recall them being solid brass but white metal and bronze plating) and paint them. Or scratch build new ones. The ones in the kit are about half as long as what's on the real thing. I scratched the ones for my Constellation and they weren't all that difficult to make.
  12. Al, Have look here at Jeff's Hobbymill page on how he uses the Byrne's Saw: http://www.hobbymillusa.com/byrnes-saw-operation.php Lots of good info on blades, etc.
  13. Thanks for the responses. I think I've got it sorted out: 1) Squirt a pile of glue on wax paper... (this part is now added) go have a cup of coffee and a smoke. 2) Spread the glue as thin as I can on one blank. 3) Put together and squish them. 4) Clamp between two 1/4" thick pieces of glass with clamps. 5) Go fiddle with something else for a couple of hours. I was using an old bottle of glue until it ran out and when I started the new bottle is when the problem occurred. Step 1) second part... wait is what I added and seems to be working.
  14. Hank, The new masting does indeed look better. I believe you're going to end up with a true one-of-a-kind and very well done model. And really... a movie projection booth??? Who would have thought?
  15. It was a pity to paint over the interior... but, I understand why you did it. Well done, sir.
  16. Very cool and very sharp, Augie. Don't work too hard outside and do take some time to scare the trout.
  17. I tried the "hammer method"... no joy. This pic shows the built up frame blanks. This one shows what I'm getting: The one on the left is what I got from the hammer method. The one on the right is from last night and slowly coming back. I'll try putting the glue on with my finger and spreading and smoothing with a bit of water this next time. Seems I'm getting about a 50% good yield on these frames. I was putting the glue straight from the bottle on the wood and then spreading it.
  18. Congratulations on the medal. You deserved it. I hope you are safe and well.
  19. I'm also wondering if Elmer's Wood Glue needs to be thinned out for this.. ????
