Thanks for the "likes" and the comments. Sam, Neither Is a big issue. At 1/16", the dado looks pretty flat. At 3/16", just a swipe of file takes care of it. If you'll go back to this post: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/5339-licorne-by-mtaylor-pof-316-french-frigate-hahn-version-20/?p=165891 all the notches in the keel and keelson were cut with the dado washer. I'm going to test David's method and stack some blades when I get a chance. I'm curious now if that will work or fling things across the room. I've been bit busy on the side with HMS Visa. Ordered pedestals, belaying pins, and some other necessities. Also order a copy of Le Venus from ANCRE for the rigging plans.

Very nicely done, Dan. Any idea on when the French stopped using the hook scarf at the bow? Then again, my ship has different method for the wales so they wouldn't apply anyway. Hmm....

Thanks for the "likes" and gentle commentary everyone. I haven't done it before either, Denis. Rob, I hit it with 2 coats of wipe on poly. Heavy coats at that. Then I put on 2 coats of furniture polish. On my test piece, nothing stuck to it. It's a pity there's no dado blades (I double checked the Thurston catalog), or the washers for the Byrnes saw. You do a fantastic job of it, Danny. Well, after almost a week of sorting out this mold and testing poly and wax for glue rejection, and I won't even get into water supply issues and spring yard work, the mold is ready. It's been treated as I told Rob (up above) and glued to the base. I have some, but not enough, cherry soaking to make the frames. I'm headed off across the room to cut some from strips.... hopefully, tomorrow I can start actually building the longboat.

Augie... try this for large areas.. if you have a Dremel. Take one of the felt pads and put it on the mandrel. Sink the screw down a bit. Then glue on a piece of sandpaper and sand with very, very, light pressure. It works well if you're careful.

Randy, Have you checked the printed copies to make sure they printed out at 100%???? I've had that problem were some print fine and others print at a different scale due to printer settings changing.

Thanks for the answer. I was thinking of trying a black leather dye as I understand they can be used with alcohol but I'll need to look into it.

Michael, Just curious... some folks use leather dye. What's the advantage with aniline dyes?

Andy, Depending on the neighbors, a scroll saw is pretty darn quiet. Quieter than a lot of folks have their TV volume set at. Other tools... would need to be used say on Saturdays or Sundays. Or daytime during the week.

Mike, Micheal's has birch plywood and so do many of the R/C aircraft hobby shops. There's also Woodcraft and Rockler's which have online stores also.

Could there have been a metal 'top' fitted under the beam to deflect the heat and smoke much like the French ships' fireplaces?

Tony, I wasn't trying to do that... I was pointing out that files will work. -
They might be the same kit or maybe not. However, Occre has almost all of the AL designers as the company was formed with the owner of AL decided to pursue other interests. I'm not sure who's running AL now though.
