  1. That's a sweet looking hydroplane. I hope you don't mind if I grab a front row seat.
  2. Denis, Turn off the computer. Go to the workbench. Plank away. We'll wait. Simple ain't it?
  3. Annoy away, Rusty. We've been warned. Looking super nice, awe inspiring work.
  4. Obviously he's posing for the photo... <ahem> I'll get me coat now.
  5. Patrick, It's Captain's choice on caulking as well as everything else. I think some is stylistic choices such as dark wood for planking and then dark caulking wouldn't show up. It can also be one of scale like treenails. Some scales just don't look right with caulking and treenails.
  6. Arjan, I take a more positive approach.. I try to learn from the successes and mistakes of others. I'm still having a hard time learning from my own mistakes.
  7. Hi Jan, She's looking good. Nice work on the rigging. As far as your posting problem, if you can, un-do the IE 11 upgrade. It's rather simple: http://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-Internet-Explorer-11-for-Windows-7 There's an issue with IE11 and the board software. If IE 11 is needed for some other site, try Chrome or Firefox.
  8. Vince, Great looking model. It deserves a nice display. Cradles are pretty much a "one of" type of thing due to the hull shape. If you have a scroll saw or a friend with one, get some nice wood and make your own. You can probably use the ones that came with the kit for templates to get the hull shape right.
  9. Rusty, I never turned anything until I got my lathe. One just has to change one's way of thinking to use it. At least I did. It works for wood and metal and I'm still figuring it out. To be honest, I wouldn't want to go back to a drill press or a dremel and files.
  10. Nice work on the cross-section. I'm impressed by what you've accomplished. Kit blocks are never the "right" size... <sigh> As for the netting, go to Michael's or a fabric shop. I think the stuff is called voile and comes in different sizes of mesh and colors.
  11. It's great that you didn't give up. As others have said, we've been there. By working on the superstructure, you got a feel for the work and think how much you won't have to do when you're ready to build that part of the ship.
  12. There's always an exception. Keep up the fine work. I love watching this ship being built.
  13. Tough choices it looks like, Rusty... metal lathe or new brother-in-law. Hmm....... Seriously, the control issue is a big factor.
  14. Either come up with an excuse that's a doozie, or make some progress. No pressure.
  15. Tom, Nice work. They best be happy or they'll hear from us.
  16. There's another issue besides weight with UPS, FED-EX and their ilk: size. They take the length, width, and depth, add them together. Over a certain size, you pay a premium for shipping.
  17. Mike, Have you had a look at the builds here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/forum/51-msw-group-build-of-an-18th-century-longboat/ ??? The builds might answer your question.
  18. Yes, that is a precedent. What I was thinking is more like this: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/454-24-pdr-bronze-gun-le-fleuron-1729-by-garward-m-124/
  19. Could you repost this in English? I did a Google Translate and I'm sure what it means.
  20. Jacque, By all means start a build log and re-ask your questions there. You'll have some continuity as well as a reference. Also, check out the other logs of the swift...
