Hi Jan, She's looking good. Nice work on the rigging. As far as your posting problem, if you can, un-do the IE 11 upgrade. It's rather simple: http://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-Internet-Explorer-11-for-Windows-7 There's an issue with IE11 and the board software. If IE 11 is needed for some other site, try Chrome or Firefox.

Vince, Great looking model. It deserves a nice display. Cradles are pretty much a "one of" type of thing due to the hull shape. If you have a scroll saw or a friend with one, get some nice wood and make your own. You can probably use the ones that came with the kit for templates to get the hull shape right.

Rusty, I never turned anything until I got my lathe. One just has to change one's way of thinking to use it. At least I did. It works for wood and metal and I'm still figuring it out. To be honest, I wouldn't want to go back to a drill press or a dremel and files.

Nice work on the cross-section. I'm impressed by what you've accomplished. Kit blocks are never the "right" size... <sigh> As for the netting, go to Michael's or a fabric shop. I think the stuff is called voile and comes in different sizes of mesh and colors.

It's great that you didn't give up. As others have said, we've been there. By working on the superstructure, you got a feel for the work and think how much you won't have to do when you're ready to build that part of the ship.

Tough choices it looks like, Rusty... metal lathe or new brother-in-law. Hmm....... Seriously, the control issue is a big factor.

Mike, Have you had a look at the builds here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/forum/51-msw-group-build-of-an-18th-century-longboat/ ??? The builds might answer your question.

Jacque, By all means start a build log and re-ask your questions there. You'll have some continuity as well as a reference. Also, check out the other logs of the swift...

Nice work, Nenad. I think you just modeled something that hasn't been done before. Or is very rarely modeled.- 4,152 replies

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
