  1. Welcome to MSW, Krisan. You've had some good advice, but I'll carry it a step further. Start with a simple model with no masts such as a life boat. Then go to one a bit more complex and as you progress, add a mast. Then one with two. Each step will increase in complexity. You didn't tell us where you are located so help with resources might be an issue. The best resource is MSW and it's many Question and Answer forums as well as build logs. Depending on where you are located, perhaps there might a member or two nearby that could help mentor you. One final suggestion... when you find a model to build, open a build log as it's the best way to get help and meet other builders.
  2. That would be the best way. Delete the three and open a album for that model. Open a new album for other models as you finish them. Edit: Never mind...I see you already did an album.
  3. Thanks for the comments and advice. As I've said, this is a test and a re-learning project. So far, I think I"m doing ok inspite of things. I probably should move up to 1:48 if for no other reason than the parts are larger. All "damage" is repairable. I removed the deck planking and good look at things. The beams don't need replacing but do need re-setting. Somewhere in all this, a couple came loose, probably while I was gluing the deck into position. I'll dig out the isopropyl and fresh glue and reset the loose ones then probably run my small belt sander at very low speed or do it by hand to ensure all is proper. I think, at this point, the only thing I'll have to remake or buy is a new rear deck. But, I want to get the beams in order first. Thanks E.Z. No basement in my apartment. It's a strange set up. First floor are one bedrooms. Above them are the two bedroom ones with the bedrooms up top. Dry hose is secure. Thanks Glen. The wood came with the kit. It could be the drying since it came from England. Weird (?) funny (?) that the only warped wood is the maple. Thanks Bruce. Wood does seem to have a mind of it's own. As for filing... I didn't file anything "over" the model. I do at the workbench where it sits though and vacuum up all the dust, etc. when done. Even the blank maple stock used instead of the lasered one for planking with strips is warped.
  4. The reviews and comments on the Syren Rope Walk give it high marks. Currently, the owner of Syren (Chuck) has the site off line while he recovers from bout of the flu.
  5. True. It's weird here though....we're in a valley at 2,000 feet with normally low humidity. Yet, black mold runs amok or seems to.
  6. I'm thinking that's the way to go on removing the deck and seeing "what's next". If I can do it without too much damage to the beams, I can always lay planks. Short answer... no marker, no pen, no markings. I know we're bad here for mold growth but just seems weird.
  7. Thanks for the input. I'll think this through a bit since i use PVA for glue, I think wetting the deck is out as it will disassemble much of the deck framing. I'll see what I can do to salvage this.
  8. I bet he also had a lot of bugs on the front of the ship also.
  9. Ah.... maybe it was for guerilla warfare? Or for river graft? Heaven knows what that author was thinking... by perchance did he do instructions on how do a charge by a light brigade?
  10. Time for an update and a question or two. The gangways have been assembled and installed. I'm pretty happy with the way they came together. Now for the questions.... the quarterdeck giving me fits. It's warping and popping loose in many places and started about a week ago as near as I can tell. And it's also developed black spots but darned if I know why. I haven't dripped water, coffee or anything else on it. Any thoughts or ideas on how to fix this or even if it can be fixed at all? I did try some light sanding on the spots but no joy... they go deep into the wood. BTW, here's the photo of the gangways installed. And here's a photo of the quarterdeck and what's going on... I just noticed that it's warping my framing on the port side also.
  11. We all have had questions, Bob. What that banner meant is "don't just ask a question but supply information to help get an answer". It's the details that are important for good answers.
  12. Welcome to MSW, Andrew.
  13. Keith, good to see you back. I'm sorry about the rough time as they're hell go through but once through them, we've gained something. We may just not know what it is. That's good news on the builder's plate and will make a great addition to the model display.
  14. One of the big differences between the US and Japanese and German battlewagons was the fire control system. If we ignore the air power involved and look at the inter-ship combat, the fire control radar made a huge difference.
  15. As for the slow down, it's very possible that part of the cause is the updates and adding in the images. Not sure when they would do their maintenance work, uploads, etc. but most commercial places do them at night. It's possible they don't have a "night shift" for this and need to do it whenever they can.
  16. Pretty darn convincing model when looking at the photo of the big boat and comparing.
  17. Welcome to MSW, Rob. There are pinned posts at the top of this sub-forum and also pinned here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/47-how-to-use-the-msw-forum-no-modeling-content / Those should help you get started. As you go through MSW in your journey, there's also pinned posts to just about sub-forum that may help.
  18. Welcome to MSW, Jeff. Your model is looking good.
  19. Looking great, Mark. Life does tend to get in the way but the threat of a Viking funeral seems a bit extreme but effect motivation.
  20. Roger, here's the relevant bit: "The only time Yamato fired her main guns at enemy surface targets was in October 1944, when she was sent to engage American forces invading the Philippines during the Battle of Leyte Gulf."
  21. It's great to see you back and that you finished the project, Mario. Sorry to hear of all the life issues and the rough time you've had. I hope life stays calm for you and yours. I do like the way you're planning on presenting the model.
  22. Some years ago I knew a lad who did RC boats. He one day got the bright idea to tie string to the stern and use the string like one would for a kite. It didn't end well as the string got tangled about the various plants in the water and also it didn't float like he thought it would. The only good thing was the string lead him to where it sank so he could recover it but it never sailed again.
