A short update in "size" but a time consumer for me. Quarterdeck beams are all in place. I'll give it light sanding just to make sure everything is smooth after doing the forecastle beams. I did sand the char off the top of the beams (missed 2 but oh-well).

I think the criteria is up to you. Depends and what else you wish to feature (rough seas, and land or other items of interest) and how much room you have for the display.

I suspect that what Oldsalt said applies. I do question though... did the Americans follow British practice and carry pigments and linseed oil for repaints at sea or actual mixed paint? The Brits did have more Captain's choice in the navy for color it seems as they did carry the oil and pigments and mixed as they needed.

If you're wanting an iron appearance, wouldn't a blackening agent work? -
I agree on the intrinsic value. While I suspect you are right about the numbers built, probably the name plates on most locomotives went to the scrap yard with the rest of the beast. So rarity is probably a factor.

Interesting photo, Keith. I'm surprised also about the lack of gun tracks.

Yes, I'm being very careful and gentle along with checking and re-checking several times before glue is applied.

That would be a very special addition to your display Keith. I admit I winced a lot when I saw the price.

We'll have our annual Memorial Day fly over tomorrow. F-15's from the base in Klamath Falls. I hope to be sitting up on the high ground on the east side of the valley to see it. Depends on the weather. Pity that they aren't going to stand them on the tails and climb out. Edit... scratch the climb out. I got an email from a former Marine friend said they'll do that over the VA Cemetary in Eagle Point. A bit of a drive so I may go there for the services, ceremonies, etc. though the weather will be a factor.

Thanks for following along and the likes. Quarterdeck and forecastle beams are next Keith. I've run a thread from the bow to the stern to mark the centerline and have started remove char off the quarterdeck beams. Looks like the beams will need just a bit of filing on the ends to fit properly so thus, the centerline rope and a light, easily erased pencil mark or two to ensure lineup.

Finally got some shop time and got all the cannons mounted. She has her teeth. Part of the delay was one cannon disappeared. I found it but the carriage was heavily damaged. Repaired and replaced some wooden bits and all is well.

Egilman, I think you have the right idea about test prints. I make test cuts on a laser cutter before feeding it the drawing just make sure nothing changed. Many moons ago I worked in a place that ran large Cincinnati Milling Machines.... and if the machine was shut down overnight or for maintenance, they ran test run on it .

At that size it would seem that it's "furniture for the living room". Maybe that explanation won't work.. but then, I'm single so any excuse works for me.

That might work OC. You might have to do a test to be sure. I was thinking an old picture frame and some plywood then line with plastic wrap and pour.. Trim away the excess plastic after the first pour. But the joints at the corners would need to well sealed.
