  1. Hi Jond Looking really nice with all those sails set. I agree with Bob, though. There's probably more than enough sail set to give a real turn of speed and excitement, without the need to further complicate things with more sails. Having said that, who am I to talk? I sailed my RC Boats in excess of 40 knot sea breezes and 3 foot high breaking waves....and the local RC Hobby shop loved me because I was forever replacing salt-water damaged winches, etc! Rock on 'last week in July', because I'm keen to see the trial too. All the best! Patrick
  2. Hi Mark What a beauty! I especially love the hull when viewed from the stern quarter in the last photo. Good luck with the laser cutting as that'll definitely make life easier in the long run. All the best! Patrick
  3. Hi Pete, Mark, Bob, Dennis, Igor, and Ben! Thanks for your comments and thanks also to those who hit the Like button. Dennis- thanks and I'll just need to trim the louvres as you've suggested. One done, they'll come up a treat! Thanks for stopping by. Igor - thanks for posting your photo. Nice job, as always! Ben - pls don't feel bad, because I really gave it a go. It just seemed too hard for me and my thick head to really make it work. Thanks and all the best! Patrick
  4. Hi,Dave It's weird, because I was actually thinking about you last night...wondering why I hadn't seen any updates regarding your SOS lately. I guess I reckon you've got a pretty good excuse for laying low whilst you're recovering. Take care and good luck with your surgery! Cheers Patrick
  5. Hi Mahuna What a beautiful job you're doing on your hull. I'm already looking forward to your next update! Cheers Patrick
  6. Hi Nils Those rudders, like your propellers, are going to masterful examples of metalwork and engineering. Look forward to seeing how it all comes together. Cheers Patrick
  7. Hi Ben, Igor and all those who pressed the Like button. Greatly appreciated! Well..................and it's a long well....I tried so many times to make the louvred windows using the methods suggested by Ben and Igor (thanks guys!). I tried the wires as well cutting strips into a suitably sized piece of styrene. Neither method worked and it started to do my head in! I guess, I just wasn't in the right head space to make either method look good. In frustration, I resorted to actually cutting thin strips of veneer and gluing them directly into the frames. The results are shown in the photos. It looks passable and just needs some trimming. I've also taken the motor out so that I could take some photos of it. The results are shown below. Anyhow, enjoy the rest of your weeks, everyone! Cheers Patrick
  8. Hi Nigel Life unfortunately gets in the way of our hobbies; but the challenge is always to get some balance back. I reckon you're doing the right thing by moving back to the more original kit type approach, particularly if it means that you can balance all your projects better. I wish you well and I look forward to you being able to update us when you're able to. All the best! Patrick
  9. Hi Ben Now, that's thinking outside the box! I like the idea of closely spaced wires to simulate the louvres. I'll give it a go and see how it turns out. Thanks and good luck with Baby No.2. Cheers Patrick
  10. Thanks Pete, Bob and everyone who hit the Like button! Greatly appreciated, as always.
  11. Looking nice Jeff! The sea looks angry, yet realistic, which is a credit to you. One question though, how will you hide the 'joints' between the seas?
  12. Hi everyone! Well, over the last few nights, I've made more progress on the interior accommodation. The following photos show the bulkheads temporarily positioned in the hull, hence why it all looks a bit wonky at this stage. Oh well, heaps of work yet to be done, but that's all part of the fun, isn't it? All the best for the week ahead! Cheers Patrick
  13. Hi Pete The graphics look really nice; and dare I say, crisp, clean and neat! Good job ! Cheers Patrick
  14. Hi Nils That looks like a good solution for the installation of the bilge keels. Once installed, they're going to be rock solid! With respect to your "problem area", I've got no doubt that you'll not only face it like 'a man', but you'll also conquer it convincingly! Looking forward to your next update. Cheers Patrick
  15. Hi Mike Beautiful! You may say 'camping', but I reckon the upturned hull reminds me of a cathedral. You're doing a fantastic job and I'm always keenly interested to follow your progress. All the best! Patrick
  16. Hi Dennis Wow! That's all I can say at this stage. Every detail is so beautifully turned out, which to a great degree is a reflection of your skills and determination. Great job. Cheers Patrick
  17. Hi Igor Ahhh. I think I know what's going on here. You took a photo of the real yacht and photo shopped it onto your building board; thinking that we wouldn't be fooled! Seriously, I really had to look hard to make sure that I wasn't imagining things, because you've done such a beautiful job building this ship, especially with those sails, that it could easily pass for the real thing at a glance. Well done and very nice work. Cheers Patrick
  18. Patrick, Oh, and I nearly forgot to insert the stb. and port bilgekeels, (got some aluninium flat material for the keels), before the roundings are planked. They are going to be "sinked" radial a bit into the Frames in midship area for secure hold Nils Hi Nils Good luck with the bilge keels. Incidentally, I'm pretty super excited. Why? Because I just realised that this is actually the first build log of yours that I'll be able to follow from the very start of construction. For instance, I joined MSW when you were at least half way through your Pegasus build and your earlier ships were all finished. So, this gives me a good way of watching and studying every step of construction from a master craftsman! All the best Patrick
  19. Hi Carl, Bob and BDGiantman Thanks for your comments and feedback! Carl - the gummed paper sounds good. The trick is to get the individual strips lined up equally in the frames. Should be fun! Bob - Thanks for helping me to think- Two or more heads are always better than one! BDGiantman - thanks for stopping by! The interior walls will be either white plastic card or wood veneer, depending on which part of the accommodation it is. Generally, the wooden walls are the main saloon and owners stateroom, whereas the white Walls are used for the remaining areas. All the best, everyone! Cheers Patrick
  20. Hey Jond What were those sail makers thinking of!!! Seriously though, it's my pleasure to comment and follow your progress! Keep up the great work. Cheers Patrick
  21. Hi Jond It's great to read your update above. First of all, can I just say, wow! The last photo of your ship with the nine sails set, is truly impressive for a number of reasons. Firstly, just the physical size of your ship and, secondly because she is one hell of an attractive ship. I can see why she must have attracted you in the first place! Can I also just say that I sympathise with you about your transport issues and the potential for breakages along the way. I had enough problems transporting my RC yachts and they were only 4 foot long (LWL). I guess that's something that may have to be accepted in your case as any attempt to move such a ship would be problematic....not that that makes breakages any easier to accept. On the flip side, it's fantastic that you're reaching the stage where it won't be long before the sails are bent and your ship will be heeling into the waves as she moves serenely across the water. All the best and I look forward to your next update! Cheers Patrick
  22. Hi Ben Nope, but good question. In the real ship, these "picture windows' are in fact large louvered openings to aid in the ventilation of the engine room. I'm still trying to figure out how to do the louvres, but at such a small size, they ain't easy! Thinking caps on.... Once done, it'd make a lot more sense. Any news on the baby front yet? Cheers and thanks. Patrick
