Thank you Ben. The finished model will be just under 43". it's actually not unmanageable. if you look at it next to Winnie, its only about 5" longer, slightly beamier at 10 3/16" and obviously another deck taller, coming in at 12". I think they both look good next to each other, a 5th and 4th, maybe ill try a 3rd rate next lol

Stunning model Greg! And what a beautiful display to compliment it. For lighting I would look into fiber optics as a way to get your light up there without wires or any kind of conduit, from there I would research how to focus the light onto your model, surely something is available. You could probably route a couple clear pieces of fiber optic up the back side edges of your clear panels and it wouldn’t even be noticeable.

So without reading bobs article yet, I’m going to venture out and guess that they may have been used to secure the boat to the side of A deck for boarding. I believe that Olympic was meant to board her boats from her open A deck promenade and this was to be carried over to Titanic, except it was decided that the design of Titanics A deck promenade was to be modified well into her construction, this happened March of 1912, late into fitting out. This may have just carried over from her original design. But I could be wrong.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
