Goos afternoon, torn between lots of things today, F1 Race test match and Victory, so i have delayed watching the Race so that i can listen to the Cricket, Brilliant game anyway - LOL subject to change the Gun-ports are finished, that for me is a big milestone, i have a couple of lanyards still to put away but the quarterdeck decoration still needs to be finished so these might be the last few outside photo to be taken as she is going to be a handful to move outside as i start soon on the deck decoration, thank you all for likes and comments which have kept me going

Gun Port Lids
Kevin replied to wq3296's topic in Discussion for a Ship's Deck Furniture, Guns, boats and other Fittings
I believe the inside bulkheads were white to reflect any available light, and the inside gunport lids red as a danger signal to being seen from a distance -
i love being part of the MSW community again and catching up on everyone's logs again, mark this looks brilliant, well done

lol a Victory without lids, that would have saved me lots of headaches and soul searching -
my wife just read this, a completely different reaction to that, - words to the effect that i would not be allowed within 100m of HER sewing machine

i must admit, the original photo confused me, the is from a group within facebook, where the makeup of a sail has been completed without actually using any canvas/ material, very clever idea,

HMS Victory is currently undergoing a period of restoration and visitors have the unique opportunity to witness the process taking place on the oldest commissioned warship in the world and a proud memorial to Vice Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, Britain's greatest Naval hero and his stunning victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. Her topmasts and rigging have been struck, or taken down, and her planking is under investigation. This is nothing unusual as wooden ships like Victory needed constant care and attention from the day they were launched. These repairs are simply the latest in a long tradition of regular upkeep. The last time HMS Victory was seen without her top masts was back in 1944, so this really is a once in a life time opportunity to see HMS Victory under-going such extreme maintenance. Interestingly, with her topmasts down, Victory will look much as she did after the Battle of Trafalgar when she had to be towed to Gibraltar for repairs.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
