    Dutch quality engine :)

Don’t think SD14 ever had one of these (the info on the engine-model suggests it is early 1960-ies, the ship is eraly 70-ies.)

However, it is rather basic card-model, so it should scale down nicely, and it sure looks like a ships Diesel.

if i was able to find a correct engine i would try to obtain one,

Is the engine part of the kit, or is the kit "only" the steel hull and superstructures?

    Jan

    Good evening Jan

just the hull, framework and superstructure

no prop, anchors or internal detail

i do have some links for a few compressors, but US supplied and costly

i have a engine but needs to be rescaled down to 1/70

    day 41 engine room levels

as the port side will be fully enclosed i started putting in the engine room levels for that side

everything seams to be lining up so far

put some paint down as well today green and white for machinery spaces, grey and grey with white box girders and deck heads for the holds

i had some decent outside photos of the engine room until i realised i had put the i had put the flat level in the wrong position,

oh and the boi wanted a mention

  4. Good evening everyone

day 37 stern build up continues, and a wheelie bin

3 days since my last post, and not much to show for it, life got in the way

the stern build up is now mainly complete, i just want to add some paint to the hard to get to places before the frames go in, i will do that next to prevent any damage occuring

the white painted section is the steering gear flat, it will get a green deck before the longitudinals go back in

day 34 box girders and crocodile clips

the after peak has been fitted and stands up quite well on its own, however the more support i can give it the safer it is

the box girders are now starting to line it all up, no glue has been used since the last post

i have no intention of passing the forward engine room bulkhead for a while with intentions of staying with the after part of the build

If you have a photocopier, you should be able to resize that engine kit relatively easily.

Just figure out the scaling difference and do a manual scaling.

That’s how I rescaled everything for my Prince de Neufchatel and Hannah builds.

For such a small scale, I’d use really thin card or regular paper when rescaling though.

    yes

i found a rescaling chart the other day, i hope to try it out within the next few days

  7. good evening everyone

this build seams to have attracted some attention, so i had better make a decent job of it, and finish it this year

Day 32 engine room tween deck module and after peak

been doing some garden work the last couple of days but yesterday i varnished 12 sheets of card on both sides to allow more cutting out

personally i have found it easier to work away from the kit rather than on the build itself

    Haha! Easy big guy!

    Found this intriguing offering:

    http://www.dhsdiecast.com/mobile/Marine-Engine-Load/productinfo/IMC33-0182/

    It’s in 1:50 scale.

Otherwise, Norscot offers a bunch of CAT engine models at larger scales (1:35, 1:12) that may also work as a main engine, with a little tweaking and a repaint. Not the cheapest, I’m afraid, but maybe workable.

    Andy

Andy i have an engine, rong scale though, those bits you linked to me i will see if i can find a supplier this side of the pond

Looking nice! Will you be detailing the engine room? I had a  couple of thoughts thought to help you get started:

    https://www.walthers.com/emd-567-prime-mover-kit

    https://www.walthers.com/refinery-piping-kit-509d60

    https://www.walthers.com/piping-kit

The first is a 1:87 styrene kit for an engine and generator (you’d need three), and the other two are a collection of pipe works and other fittings (valves, unions etc) that you can assemble as needed.

If you feel like diving down that particular rabbit hole 😁

    Andy

    Edit:

    Found this too:

    https://www.walthers.com/tanker-truck-loading-rack-kit-7-x-3-1-2-x-3-3-16-quot-17-8-x-8-9-x-8-1cm

It has a bunch of pumps and other useful bits.

ooooooooooooooooooooooo I LOVE YOU @realworkingsailor strictly in a MSW sort of way
