Symphony has a large curved sofa in her main saloon, which I've been trying to duplicate.  Here's my attempt at it.  I hope you like it.

I think you hit it dead center.  That sofa looks great.  Don't show it to any Admiral.. EVER!!!  Because the next thing you know, they'll want one full size somewhere.

Thanks for your feedback and comments. Mark, I will definitely keep the Admiral's in the dark. But, somehow, i wouldn't trust myself to build a full sized one. I don't think I could afford the super glue!

 

Carl - funny you say that, because I was just reflecting on the fact that there really isn't a hell of a lot of difference between model boats and doll houses. Same skills, similar techniques, just different subject matter. Who knows, maybe I might try branching out one day and trying something new.

Just a quick update on the main saloon.  On the starboard side, the curved settee has a double shelved book shelf on the bulkhead.  On the port side, I started on the fireplace unit.  

 

Here are the results so far.  Heaps more work to go, still.

Hi Frank, Pete, Bob and Nils and everyone who hit the Like button.

 

Frank- the timber is Queensland Wattyl, an Aussie timber veneer (.6 mm thick). It's a beautiful timber which sands and cuts easily. But, you're right, even with an unplanked deck, the deck beams still restrict the viewing somewhat, but I don't think there's any alternative, unless I don't put any deck on her at all.

 

Bob- you're right about the saloon, because it'd be a great place to sit and relax with a wine.

 

Nils- thanks! I'll have to take your word about the First Class of a 747 Jumbo....the best I've ever done is to fly Business Class once and that was great. I don't think First Class would ever be achievable due to my bank balance not being healthy enough!!!

Cog, in the days of the old wooden sailing ships you would be right. However, these days yachts like Symphony and the big motor yachts can have small fireplaces like this in the cabin. Unlike most house fireplaces, the yacht ones burn oil or propane or maybe some diesel fuel, and are more for decoration purposes. Yes, they can produce can produce heat to the occupants when nearby, but the wood burning fireplaces produce more and better heat.
