If there's a mistake made when cutting Ken, can the part be repaired some way, or is it one of those "I have to make a new part" things? I know scotch tape wouldn't be acceptable. Oh and quite a few builds I've been following have DNA imprinted on them. Cheers

I know all too well how boring it gets in there Dave. Even with Cable TV (at an out-of-pocket cost of course), I was bored sicker. Used to look forward to the nurses coming in to check on me though. Gave me something to do by telling them a few jokes. Don't think their Supervisor liked it much, but hey, I figured if I could drive 'em nuts, they'd kick my a** out early. Hang in there man. It can't last forever. Cheers

It's a bummer Robb, but I guess it's all part of the process. The bright side is you're getting plenty of extra practice.

When I was in the hospital I had to resort to telling R-rated jokes to the nurses just to get an extra desert at dinner. Hope you get well soon and not there long Dave. Cheers

You've certainly done a lot of research on her Marc, and found a myriad of discrepancies in the kit. I suspect other people that are doing the same kit will be referencing this build for years to come, and Mantua would do well to check it out and make changes. Your Cutty looks great.

Interesting! So this kit isn't really all that different than a POB wood kit then, with bulkheads and all. Besides the card stock absorbing moisture a little faster than wood.

Despite the lack of good info on the plans Vince, you're doing a bang-up job, and she looks better every time I check in.

Those ARE nice! Wish all kits offered them. They look great the way they are, but I was wondering if you were planning on weathering them at all? I know it's somewhat "shady" territory, if they don't come out right, but just wondering.

The mounting to the picnic-table was what I noticed first John. Just happens the work-table I'm building right now has a 1-1/2" top, and perfect for clamping stuff to.

That's a sweet workshop you've found there John. I see that new little belt-sander is working nicely for doing those hulls. Might have to pick me up one for my build, when I start getting tools again. Last month, and this coming month's allowance has and will be for lumber and supplies, but I'll be done with that by Oct., then later this fall, or hopefully before the snow flies, I'll get with you for that sander.

Sounds like having a set of "cabinet straps" would be a handy thing to have for that case during assembly. They're designed to hold the sides of a cabinet together during glue-up.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
