What the other guys said Nenad. Family always comes first. Remember, Her Majesty will wait, and take care of yourself also.- 4,152 replies

Looking good Matt! A formidable set-up! And would also give the ship a little extra propulsion from the re-coil when fired.
-
Oh I wasn't talking about the lanyards themselves. Just the shroud seizings above them. Probably should have worded it different.

Hey congrats Danny! A well deserved honor. -- Since Pud helped as much as he could, are you thinking about bringing him to the museum as well?
-
Looks good Boyd! A question. Are you planning on serving the rest of the wormed shrouds? If not, to show the contrast of the wormed lines, maybe using a darker color brown, or black for those lanyard seizings would make for another good contrast in color?

Gonna pull up a stool for this one too if you don't mind Dave. She's on my list of future builds as well as a few others.

Like Kurt said, get yourself a set of machinist pin-vises, and you can put any size drill-bit in any larger drill-press.- 31 replies

THE 74-GUN SHIP by Jeronimo
GLakie replied to Jeronimo's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1751 - 1800
A masterful display of your carpentry skills Karl. On top of all the other adjectives the others have used, I would add "outstanding" work. And yes I'd love to see your Le Bonhomme Richard as well. Cheers- 194 replies

Rigging is one of the most challenging things to do on these from what I've been seeing. When I was young I rigged 3 plastic ships and didn't care about serving and seizing lines, but having said that, I still found taking my time, and doing sometimes just one line at a time, reduced my frustration levels. Spent 6 months just rigging the Cutty, but it ended up still looking pretty nice, considering I didn't really know what the heck I was doing.

Amazing what you're doing on such a small scale Danny! I don't think you'd have any problem recruiting help to drain it.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
