Very nice finishing touch Danny! Love that over-all shot of her from astern. She looks great. Cheers

Sorry about the discovery of a hidden crack Jesse, but it seems like you've found an acceptable fix that should look nice. I was thinking maybe some home-made wood filler, from some really fine sanding dust and stainable PVA, may have worked as well. Cheers

Thanks David. That's what I've been thinking. That those types of cuts, for our purposes in modeling, would for the most part, be very light, and with a 10" drill-press, it should hold up fairly well.

Good to see you're making progress on her Dennis. I know all about "life" popping up and delaying the best-laid plans, but it's just something we have to deal with. Cheers

Those flags look fine to me Danny, and will look just dandy on Vulture. A quick question -- I've been mulling over the idea of getting a milling machine, but I'm wondering if a decent drill-press with a good compound-table (X - Y table) would work as well for wood? I wouldn't be using it for metal. Cheers

Looks like nice, thin cloth, and perfect for sail-material Mike. She'll be spectacular with all her cloth up.

What you've done so far looks fantastic Boyd, so I'm sure whatever you decide on the rigging will look great. Cheers

Really sorry about your losing your family friend Grant. I've been there all too many times myself, and to me, it's one of the hardest and heartbreaking things there is to do in life. You have my sympathies.

A lot of the shrouds I've seen, like on my own plans are 2 lines, going to the same side, and one hoop, then repeat for the other side. But for your ship, I'd follow what the rigging plans say to do, because they are not all alike, and are probably different. Cheers

Sure is a small area to work in. Must have picked the smallest men on the ship for that task!

Nice work jockeying that pin-vise around all that rigging Danny! I sense the banging of little ice-cubes against each other soon, for the up-coming, "all done" celebration festivities. Cheers
-
Missed that myself. Sorry! I think Brian's right Robb, unless it IS the other way for this particular ship.

Nice shot of the deck! She looks great! You've done really well so far Robb, and I have no doubt when the rigging comes around, you'll manage nicely. Cheers

Well Robb I don't have any easy way out for you and from looking at a pic I Googled, I say you'll end up having to scratch-build those pieces. Shouldn't be too bad if the plans show the 1:1 view of the cross trees. The up-side is that there's only 2, as opposed to a 3-masted square-rigger.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
