  1. Al, our rain wasn't just a little rain. I usually avoid water during lightning. Michael, Ben and Popeye, workshop time is just what I needed. While working with some veneer I tried slicing my left index finger off with a utility knife. OUCH!!! So I'm pretty much relegated to the indoors on the orders of my admiral. Tim, I plan on purchasing the cannons from MS for the gundeck. As far as the spar deck, I'm still looking around and weighing my options.
  2. Thanks Frank! It looks like it's going to be raining for the next couple of days so I should be able to post some updates.
  3. Popeye. I tried to make it good and sturdy. Ben, thanks for looking in. I was hoping to use this in future builds and thinking that it may help give me better measurements while building.
  4. Adam, I'd heard rumors that you were making comments on this site again. Thanks for your compliments! It means a lot to me.
  5. Tom, great progress as always. I'm looking to play a little catch up to you. I'm so far behind. The great part about that though is I can just follow in your footsteps.
  6. Sal, in answer to your question, I'll state my opinion like this... Were it my build, I would put the decking down in individual planks. One, it offers god practice for future builds; two, you can get more realistic butt joints with individual planks; three, you will be able to add the appearance of caulking between the planks. You can always go back and use the scribed material if you're not happy with the way the individual planks turn out. As far as the aft deck, you would want to sand down the planks so that they taper. Whatever your decision will be, I'm sure you'll do well with it.
  7. Tim, thanks for looking in. It's my first official building slip. I'm sure down the road I'll be adding some 'features' to it as I discover my needs with future builds.
  8. Thanks Bob. I was trying for something that I would be able to reuse with other builds down the road. It's pretty basic but it should allow me to adequately measure certain aspects on my hull for a more accurate build.
  9. Sal, your coppering job is top notch! Are you sure this is your first wooden ship?
  10. Augie and Popeye, thanks for the good thoughts. These swimbaits are supposed to be some of the best. As long as it's raining in Ohio I should be able to get some more work done on Constitution.
  11. I took some time with this build to put together a building slip. The rear port post on this is glued in place. The rear starboard post moves to accommodate different keel widths. The front port post slides fore and aft and the starboard post moves to accommodate the width up front. I have glued together the keel and next will be adding it to the false keel. As always, thanks for looking in. P.S. Now that my swimbaits have arrived, I will be spending slightly less time in my shipyard.
  12. I'm very anxious to see some paint on her now. I also like the feature you have added for the spare topsail yard. I haven't seen that included in a build before. Was this typical?
  13. Great build so far! I'm thinking you meant that it was the first 'ship of the line' you have personally constructed. LOL
  14. Wow! You really got a lot done. The pumps and framing look great! I'm giving serious thought to purchasing this kit! I hope you don't mind that your build log will be looked at as more of a practicum than a build log.
  15. Sherry, the carvings are really inspiring. I don't know if you've already covered this, but what are you doing to give these carvings the gold color? Is it paint or gold leaf?
