  1. Thanks Bob. I was trying for something that I would be able to reuse with other builds down the road. It's pretty basic but it should allow me to adequately measure certain aspects on my hull for a more accurate build.
  2. Sal, your coppering job is top notch! Are you sure this is your first wooden ship?
  3. Augie and Popeye, thanks for the good thoughts. These swimbaits are supposed to be some of the best. As long as it's raining in Ohio I should be able to get some more work done on Constitution.
  4. I took some time with this build to put together a building slip. The rear port post on this is glued in place. The rear starboard post moves to accommodate different keel widths. The front port post slides fore and aft and the starboard post moves to accommodate the width up front. I have glued together the keel and next will be adding it to the false keel. As always, thanks for looking in. P.S. Now that my swimbaits have arrived, I will be spending slightly less time in my shipyard.
  5. I'm very anxious to see some paint on her now. I also like the feature you have added for the spare topsail yard. I haven't seen that included in a build before. Was this typical?
  6. CaptainSteve, you've done it again! What a score too. The treenails are outstanding sir!!!
  7. Great build so far! I'm thinking you meant that it was the first 'ship of the line' you have personally constructed. LOL
  8. Wow! You really got a lot done. The pumps and framing look great! I'm giving serious thought to purchasing this kit! I hope you don't mind that your build log will be looked at as more of a practicum than a build log.
  9. Sherry, the carvings are really inspiring. I don't know if you've already covered this, but what are you doing to give these carvings the gold color? Is it paint or gold leaf?
  10. Forget the wall/room side of things. It's looking great all around Michael!
  11. It's only against the rules if you're not having a good time. Improving on your kit is always for the best as these kits are only vague representations of the real thing. The launch way is stunning. That is outstanding work Sal.
  12. Popeye, from your pictures it almost looks like that was meant to be. The recesses being nice and dark as they are, it gives it a well weathered look. There are some of us out there who couldn't get results like that if we tried.
  13. You're turning lead into gold! It's looking great despite what you started with.
  14. It looks as though you have your production line at full speed. The lids are looking great so far!
  15. The decks look fantastic Popeye! I like the look of the staggered planking on the poop deck as well. I can't wait to see more.
  16. Nigel, as always exemplary work! Now we have your secret about getting such wonderful curves on seemingly single pieces of wood. LOL
  17. Nigel, I too enjoy planking and it has been tough to not say "Screw it!" and jump ahead. Joshua, Yes, the coffee table is the primary modeling area in my home. It affords me a good view of the computer and TV, and it's the only room I have primary command of. Michael, from your work on Halifax I'm sure that you didn't have much to worry about as far as quality of build goes. Thanks guys for looking in.
  18. Popeye, the admiral is usually not home when I'm in the shipyard (aka the living room). Of course I still have to get the keel in place, get her mounted onto a building platform and then I'm going to work on the bulwarks and gunport framing so I can stop breaking off the thin upper pieces of my bulkheads.
  19. Sal, the launch ways look great! I'm looking forward to seeing some copper on your hull.
  20. Joshua, LMAO! I'm not building it on the ottoman. I just put it there to get a decent photo. Sal, more clamps are always helpful. I picked up ten for $4.00 at Meijer a bit ago. I will probably be getting more though.
  21. Tom, thanks. I just wished I had more accomplished at this time. I wouldn't worry too much about your Constitution; it's looking awesome. I think the kit I bought was an older kit so I would hope some of the issues I've come across have been corrected.
