  1. weird i got wooden deadeyes with mine!? and even though wrong the ships wheels were bronzed- maybe due to manufacturing restrictions over last few months- i got some replacement boats from quaycraft via cornwall model boats. Keith
  2. looking good jeff -to get my run for the tuck on victory and terror i held a plank where the stern post meets the counter and let it fall naturally round the hull and tapered my planking around that at the stern end- basically you end up half way round the bilge from the top of the sternpost😁 Keith
  3. it is called soft ply and all the billings kits used it till laser cutting came along- only solution if using a painted finish is to use high build primer then sand back- pain in the rear end but best way. Keith
  4. good thing about using card is easier to make a load of frames fairly easy thus making for a stronger hull Keith
  5. work progresses with the yards- i have seen a few people asking how you attach the yards to the masts- easy use the rigging designed for the task- if you glue or nail the yard in place it could cause severe damage if accidentally caught and trust me i have been playing knock the yard arms with this one😵. first shot shows one of the tyes rigged from the masthead through the block on the yard then through block attached to masthead before heading down to the kevel- process repeated in reverse as well to other side. shot of foremast- next job will be to rig the parralls then yard will be hoisted to final position. take care all Keith
  6. work on the 2nd planking starts- decided to emulate the run of planks under the iron plating as per original- will make planking rest of hull with walnut easier. used the veneer strip originally intended for 2nd planking and got to say it is very splitty and i wouldn't like to use it for entire hull- kudos to you guys who persevered with it! marking out position of timbers on bow planking underway needed help from dressmakers pins to hold some bits till glue dried take care all Keith
  7. looks great kevin- bet the mrs will give you a crack round the lughole if she sees that shot of her bent over😇😁- mine would 🤪 Keith
  8. welcome to the terror club- with a little research you can iron out occres shortcuts/ mistakes😉 Keith
  9. i hear ya on the kit manufacturers altering details Scott- my billings Victory being a good point- if i listed everything they short cut / altered/missed i would end up with a book! Keith
  10. cornwall model boats Keith- it is a caldercraft fitting so might be available else where- not cheap though because of the size i suppose- around £16 uk stirling per metre 😵 but it certainly looks the biz😁. Keith
  11. wierd set up for the windlass for this ship Jeff but your fix is looking good,- are you going to just have a flat stern where it meets the counter or are you going to try the oft dreaded tuck? Keith
  12. thanks Jeff - i have the longridge book too but them guys can assume you know the basic details and don't go into too much detail as to actual belaying- i decided to just run it through the Kevel in the end but a block and tackle then into the kevel would have meant lighter work for the crew = suppose most of the weight is taken by the slings and jeers though. Keith
  13. thanks for looking in folks- made a start trimming planking on bulwark openings and fitted walnut plank above shroud protector - think the colour will be dark enough to not need painting🤔. Also the 10 links per inch studded anchor chain arrived- niceeeeee ( normally make my own but lifes too short and these links are only 3mm long by 2mm wide. take care all Keith
  14. yep Keith the sketch is more accurate- the t.v. show would be more accurate for ships of nelsons time! i will use wire eyes and a length od brass wire for the jack stay- watch out occre have a lot of rigging leading wrong way! - lees masting and rigging will show you how, or just ask if in doubt😁 Keith
  15. niceeeeeeeeeeeee😁- on the fishing vessels i have been on they led from the wires going from yard to yard to a couple of insulators to either the wheelhouse roof or radiocabin depending on size. Keith
  16. i know how you feel- always the same when leaving the instructions well behind- do i go this way or that way🤔- and terror would most likely have had a jackstay on top of the yards for the square sails with the sail attached to it- not hanging from the bottom of the yards which was earlier practice🤨. Keith
  17. the link on matthews victory log is for a demo on this site but looks cool either way- on the MSW link he actually reduces the sail area to make life easier- mines going to be full sail methinks after watching that😁 Keith
  18. thanks for the views and comments everyone- back in the shipyard and we have the rest of the keels, the sternpost assembly and the bulwarks planked- still need trimmed around openings though😁. also bought these 1/72 ships boats from quaycraft which are 85mm long- i have a 100mm boat and some stud link anchor chain on order with cornwall model boats- by the time i have finished will have spent more on upgrades than cost of kit 🤪 take care all Keith
