I agree that covering all that fine detail with deck was a shame. so a more open one is a great idea. Michael

Danny the picture of the full model sitting on the workbench was a bit of a surprise, for some reason I had not equated the scale of your model with its actual size. Your photographs and the level of detail in many of the small items led me to thinking this was a much larger model. Then with the last pictures of the head timbers, I realized just how small and fiddly these parts are. Hats off to you sir for some very fine modelwork. Oh and congratulations on the completion of the move. Michael

Omega very neat. your dental mirror reminded me of a neat way we used to look into Architectural models. We made some small periscopes, they are easy to make with a bit of tube you just need a couple of small mirrors set at 45 degrees. try it, I think you will be both pleased and surprised. Michael

Excellent work and explanations Bob. One thing that I am curious about is the use of the two sets of blocks for the Gaff up-haul, was it because the weight was to much for just a triple block? Michael

Omega I still am having a hard time getting my head around how small this model is, I think I would have been tempted to build the whole thing out of Styrene given the tiny sections. You are doing an incredible job Michael

Antony the section looks like it is nearly finished. The film you mentioned for the copper plates how does is follow all the surface modulations or is it some sort of spray? Michael

David a lift gate, can you elaborate? Nils, thanks but I needed to rework the handle to accommodate the bowsprit. Today I oiled the deck and fitted the main bowsprit hardware. Then reworked the handle. Next I will add some guides for the hull to find the keel track. then give it a coat of paint Michael

Thank you Brian. Steve: the getting her back on is the least of my concerns at the moment, it just occurred to me this morning that the whole configuration is daft because I have not accounted for the rigging which includes a bowsprit and bobstay, even if the bowsprit were housed. Your suggestion makes a lot of sense. Oh well back to the drawing board. Thank you to all of you who added likes Michael

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
