Wasn’t the original version of the Revell Model pulled off the shelf because it was to detailed in the Engineering spaces. I also recall a story about the Russian Embassy in Washington running around to hobby shops in Virginia and buying upmthese models. Also a retired TMC.

It really adds to a models looks. I am re-rigging all my models with Syren rope and blocks. Tearing off rigging and replacing. Currently working on Gunboat Philadephia renamed Spitfire. Placing in a Diorama.

“ALWAYS maintain the same orientation of each bulkhead to the false keel. ALL THE LETTERS AND NUMBERS SHOULD ALWAYS FACE THE BOW/STEM/FORWARD/FRONT/FORE/THE POINTY END of the boat.” some models have bulkhead markings switch direction in the middle this is where your read the directions advise is paramount. example from Syren instructions: NOTE: The scribed sides of each bulkhead should face towards the bow for all lettered bulkheads. They should face towards the stern for all of the numbered bulkheads.

One of the things I don’t miss is tracing wires in Automatic Torpedo Test Sets. There is miles of white wire thrown into a rats nest. Fun fun fun.

Nice work on the new keel and stem. Look much better than the original I remember when our Rottie was a pup. She destroyed a wall, weathering strip around our front door and ate a $600 antique dining room chair that cost us $300 to get repaired. Good thing they are family. Look at as a good chance to stock up on nice wood and build out of reach shelves.

Chuck you provide the most concise instruction booklets available. They are awesome and I would like to make a suggestion based on ten years of writing technical documentation. Number your photos and refer to that number in your instructions. Lessens confusion. Looking forward to this kit.

Mark you are absolutely correct about the people on this site. They are gentlemen all ...Unless you are a person pirating kits. Welcome aboard. If you show pictures of your build in a log as you go along you will receive both praise and how to fix your errors and as a new builder we all made errors. Heck I still screw the pooch on occasions and I’ve been at this for ten years. I believe the Endeavor is a blunt bow, meaning a big bend to a flat front. Read up on planking, bending and shaping planks in the “More” section above. Enjoy yourself.

Recently purchased the Cannon Jolle. Have not started it as of yet but the parts look high quality. Looking forward to trying the pre-shaped planking. Wish it was a little larger.

The Model Shipways Syren has the best instruction book on the market. It is a beautiful model when complete and while the Niagra is also beautiful I would go with the Syren just because of the instruction book. It is written by the designer Chuck Passaro. My 2 cents . And welcome to the forum.

Bill a little sanding and filler and she will really start to shine. You are doing a great job. LauckStreet Shipyard offers a great practicum on building the yards and masts and then rigging. It is very helpful and educational.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
