  1. It is written in the instructions you can use a brush with that type of "hairs" for the thatch ...
  2. He, ho ... he, ho ... Couldn't you make a baseboard with a cross cutout so you can slide the rotary table in different positions ... just a thought popping up ...
  3. Impressive Mike. Very nice rigging ... looks like you've done it before
  4. Lovely job. What are those dark spacers made of? When I look at the original, I don't see hexagonal nuts, so you could shape them down, filing them to scale ... at least the "top" ...
  5. How are your bonsai skills ...? Oh golly, another kit impatiently waiting for some TLC (knifes, glue, and paint) ... already looking forward to the next one. But first things first ... Dr 1 (could be a 007 film title )
  6. " I've done some final trimming etc in readiness for the upper skins. I've also fitted the "teak" sections of the main decks. These fitted perfectly : " What did you expect else, with your wood skills - as show in Vulture Those hull pieces do fit quite well ... you can always say the paint cans were from different batches when someone starts on the "50 shades red"
  7. Ah, well we from Dutch stock seem to have found your build log first Wouldn't miss this one for the world ...
  8. Patrick, great find, it shows that a lot of power can be transfered to the kruipalen.. For the English speakers: "kruien" in this context is rotate the head of the mill so the sails can be set in an active or inactive position "kruipalen" are the poles which are used to rotate, mostly a chain is slung around them and through a mechanical system with a wheel the rotation is done
  9. Which doesn't mean those should remain static (can always try to persuade you ...)
  10. "As the shadow said what evil lurks in dark places. " When you think of it it isn't dark, it's pretty clear. It is the easiest way to get, give, and manipulate data. And what you get isn't always what you are looking for!!!
  11. Penanten, fit to the outside wall against each corner of the octagon. When you look at the drawing of the mill (cover), you can see them as those dark blocks at every corner. It is permanent, as they are part of the foundation. Nope those aren't. The Kruipalen are poles stuck into the ground with which the head of the mill is rotated (Unfotunately in Dutch but have a look here)
  12. I don't mind the sequence you show the pictures in. Fabulous job P.s. images are nice and sharp, which is most important
  13. How to remove unnecessary attached files to the post???? ) edit the post, and remove the files by clicking the garbage bin on the listed files/images
  14. Looks pretty weathered ... A real bummer Greg, hope you won't get another one of them ...
  15. Good to see you back at the bench, Simon It is wise to have that one on anyway. Hull is looking very nice
  16. You could spray a satin water resistant "laquer" over the thatch. You should realise that thatch deteriorates over time, so if you do not treat it, it will get the authentic brownish look, passing into green (moss) Strangely enough, I've never seen a mill with moss on it's thatch ...
  17. Jan, the one in Zeddam is one of the oldest, and has some limitations I thought, with the direction the wind is coming from, or that goes for the ones built before the Zeddam type. Alse rather heavy (brik), couldn't rotate the head, to get it in the propper alignment
  18. which finger ... Nice progress, although it is hardly visible due to the size of the items
