  1. Whilst you wrap your head around (what paper do you use?) ... most POB builds have the curving part of the stern as a shaped block of wood, on which the planks can be glued ... you may consider the same method
  2. I know of powder boys, youngsters running to and fro from powder magasin to gun, never read anything about youngsters and shot, interesting
  3. druxey, that depends largely on the number of hairs, you will use, and the length, I was thinking in the line of two to three. Furthermore, my experience with enamels and saber ... not good for the long term, acrylics, I haven't used that long enough to be able to form my opinion
  4. Another option is to cut some hairs from another brush and glue those to yancovitch's toothpick
  5. Thanks gents for the likes and the compliments. I have just returned from a trip to visit a friend whom has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Hope to finish the for'ard superstructure this week, but life seems to be interfering a lot lately
  6. OC if you still have problems let me know. You know how to reach me. Mark, you can run W7 or even XP on a virtual machine under Linux too, you just need enough memory on the virtual to run programs which require a lot of memory
  7. Thanks Sam, a lot of praise for my poor efforts on such a small ship, credits should go to those masters of the big full weatherd ships, like Yamato and Mississippi, which tought me how
  8. Try masking the wood, than paint the hoops, remove the tape and laquer the barrels without tape
  9. Back in the saddle again. Glad your brushes are still in condition, and your paint liquid. Looking good, any progress is progress. Work can be a bitch, especially if you are the owner ... take care Patrick
  10. The colour does make it come a live, Steven. Even without mutilated rowers with blue hair
  11. And me thinking you had it all worked out! I like the way your figurines turned out, will you be using alternative colours like purple and blue for the hair? For the sleeves of your oars, could a toffee wrapper be of any use? Foil backed with paper ...
  12. Doesn't look to bad the hole, besides you can finish it with a ring, which you'll probably have to do anyway. Bowsprit looks quite good, how did you manage?
  13. Nice work Jason, dispite the missing reference. I would have expected the handropes for the ladder to be slack as well as a final detail, since there is no knot at that last stanchion on either side. Now I am nit picking. A very nice additional detail for the build! When you are talking about me I would call it dementia, for most it will be temporary amnesia, if I can still remember it correctly
  14. No, but the picture is rather grainy. High ISO? I presume it is on the underside of the deck grating, the middle photograph, edges of the holes in the PE
  15. Since you would like some realism, and you yourself are not comfy with the full version, I would advise to go for option 2. As previously said by others, it will probably be the one which fits you best to succeed with. Option 1 sounds like you do not like it at all and 3 makes you uncertain if you will manage. I had the same with my first ship's weathering and overdid the rust. Greg does some impressive weathering, but it has gotten better time and again. Now he doesn't need to add the slime, as almost all the visitors of his log drool over the build . What might happen, is that you will have to redo the first stages of weathering, because your are getting better at it, and it is a large vessel
  16. Mark, leave them on, else you take away the ground for the remarks, and I suddenly look even dumber Jo, Nice working boat like it is now. I really do like the way the hull looks, beaten and roughly handled by it's owner. That caprail will turn out very spiffy.
  17. You should have taken the photograph without the visible gun ports, then it would be a real challenge!
  18. Thank you kind lady, it seems I'm getting very old, even repeating meself when posting on a forum. Must have a very, very, very short term memory Darn, my browser is playing up again, instead of repeating just once it now does it thrice So much for computerisation, it really makes me angry
