Well done. I do like the look of the hull, looks real neatly constructed. How have you been using the planner on the con caved curves by the keel?
-
Beautiful clean crisp work. Did you use a foil similar to that of candy wrappers for the decoration above the stern windows? It came up real nice.
-
Give yourself a pat on the back. You have done a truly great job on your deck. The Bulwarks came up great too. I'm not 100% sure on the Bowsprit and how it was lashed. Sometimes the end is rested on the deck with a Steel saddle bolted over it. Looks great anyways.

Very neat and tidy rigging work. Looks uniform. Well done. I especially like the line on the port side cathead how it droops down.

Your doing a great job. I also have a Sergal kit. The HMS President. Are your rigging plans like mine as well, just printed on 1 sheet? The are very scarce and basic rigging plans.
-
Has anyone had any experience with this kit? I've never assembled a Minicraft kit before and want some feed back about the instructions, Parts quality and fitting issues if any. I have had a browse through this site but I don't think anyone is building a 1:350 scale version. Thanks in advance.

People on this site can help you and sort out your problems and confusion you may have with this build. BUT the best advice you can receive is to have patience!, Take your time. Don't rush, I'm sure you will do a great job your Opa will be proud of. You never know... After finishing this then you could be hooked!! P.S There is no such thing as a stupid question either, don't be shy.

Favorite new hand tool discovery
S.Coleman replied to Senior ole salt's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I can't do without my tweezers. I'd have to say would be my favorite hand tool. I have straight points, 45 degree, 90 degree self locking tweezers, tweezers for decals even tweezers I have stolen from the admiral that she used to use for her eyebrows. (shhhhh) There is nothing worse than not being able to pick up, place, pull, twist, grab and insert all those tiny parts. -
Thanks Chris, that is a big help. I will have to look into these Citadel paints. They seem good quality.

Your doin a stunning job Chris. How do you get your wood to look like that? With the aged look. Especially like the wood around the figure head. I see on the box the picture shows the figure head lion is a bright red. I won't be doin that. I will be painting it more the way you have done. Looks better.

Amazing craftsmanship. I liked the idea of adding the black paper in the joins to enhance the joins.

PILL PACKAGING Tablet foil that medical pills are packaged in make good checker plating for stairs/walkways etc. A light coat of grey paint and looks great. Obviously for those who are modeling more modern type of vessels.

Ahh yes the repetitive job of gun port hatches. Still looking good. I noticed on your middle picture the cannon on the left of the frame is black. Will you be blackening the rest of the cannon barrels?

I work in advance for rigging. If I need to tie blocks i will glue all the nessercery parts with Diluted PVA the day before and by the next day the glue has thougly dried I can permanently rig it onto my model. Then glue another set to be installed the day after that. CA is a dirty word in my shipyard.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
