Nice start. For caulking I use a HB pencil and rub it along the edges of the plank. I will precut about 20 or so deck planks then clamp them all together so I can hit 20 planks at a time. Hope this helps.

What size is that drill bit? I have had a couple small tiny drill bits bend on me before.

Good spotting. I was looking at the ship center of the painting and I notice two sterns. But it only looks like one ship? Or am I missing something?

The Armor looks fantastic. There must of been a lot of ballast in the bottom of the hull. You would think it was real top heavy!

Interesting Yard arm ends.... Personally I would do away with them altogether but if you want to keep them have a go at shaping some with wood as Ulises Victoria suggested. -
A real gem. Soon these Mamoli kits will be extinct. A real shame. You have done a beautiful job of her. Great work.

It would of been a dangerous job emptying the fire box on these wooden paddle steamers. Did they ever (drop the fire) as they do with railway locomotives? How was this done?

Brilliant job! Can we have a pic with the brass nameplate? Your rigging is neat and tidy.

Julie, You are the hero. Without your hands to hold those tools to sand, shape, cut and glue, Then those tools would be just.... Well tools:) Give yourself a pat on the back for a superb job. It looks great.

That's interesting about your grates. Cast iron ones may of been a bit too heavy. I'd personally head towards the wooden ones IMO.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
