Ed Tosti's Young America Extreme Clipper Ship Model Practicum. Vol 1 & 2 Provides all the plans, drawings and PDF files to scratch build this impressive model. Includes 9 Sets of Plan Drawings, 2 Cd's Condition is unused, well kept. Decided that I'm going to stick to kit building. Actually, I spend probably half my time cleaning and putting things away because I get anxious when things aren't organized and clean. lol

I work mostly out of my garage but at times will gather small projects to work on a fold out table in the living room so I can be close to my wife and daughter. The first pic is a little older than the subsequent two. Here's the garage. Best, Joshua

Bob, I hear ya with the struggles of this model. I've actually started to crutch off of a Syren kit someone had started but didn't finish in both parts and instructions. Both ships are American built 2 masted vessels of similar size of the same period and the kits were the same scale. Chuck's instructions have a lot more pictures and details especially around rigging the bow spirit, etc. I've given up on the instructions that came with the PDN and am relying heavily on Chappelle's drawings and Reed's book. The Syren came with photo etched parts for gun ports that I plan to use. The Syren's instructions are on the MicroMark website for download in PDF. Josh

I live in S. Jersey, so you wouldn't have to ship albeit $400 is higher than I can afford to spend on that right now.

Great progress so far! I have this kit as well and I also had the same reaction to the cut-away section in the hull. I also plan to just fully plank it solid. Joshua

The needle of glue also works on a bottle of zap, see? If the glue dries in the needle, hit it with a lighter but don't breath in the fumes On a side note, i don't know how you can work with this medium, i think i would find it rather frustrating...

Todd, If you're going to dive into buying any resource materials on ship history or modeling, you should check out abebooks.com. I got three of chappell's books for under $20 with shipping. They're donated library books and in awesome shape. Highly recommend checking out that site for book purchases. Josh

I've been drawing a few ideas from Hopeful's Sharpie and then adding some things on my own. But yes, I attempted to do the creasing in scale and it's too small. I think I'm at the point of hand stitching it because my wife's machine is really letting me down at this poin with inconsistent stitches. I am by no means a seamstress and my wife's machine is a cheapy she uses to throw scrub hats together that she only generally wears a couple of times. Hard for me to expect that this machine will get me the perfect decorative stitching I'm shooting for. And I know all about having a locker of ships, I have 12 currently on the shelf... Josh.

Book or no, this was well worth reading, thank you for posting. I thought I was all ready to start on my sail making endeavor until I saw this post. lol Now I'm back to the researching board because I really liked the creasing effect the way you did. It's definitely inline with some of the research I've been reading. Trying to determine if it's appropriate for my Sharpie. Josh.
