I've been drawing a few ideas from Hopeful's Sharpie and then adding some things on my own. But yes, I attempted to do the creasing in scale and it's too small. I think I'm at the point of hand stitching it because my wife's machine is really letting me down at this poin with inconsistent stitches. I am by no means a seamstress and my wife's machine is a cheapy she uses to throw scrub hats together that she only generally wears a couple of times. Hard for me to expect that this machine will get me the perfect decorative stitching I'm shooting for. And I know all about having a locker of ships, I have 12 currently on the shelf... Josh.

Book or no, this was well worth reading, thank you for posting. I thought I was all ready to start on my sail making endeavor until I saw this post. lol Now I'm back to the researching board because I really liked the creasing effect the way you did. It's definitely inline with some of the research I've been reading. Trying to determine if it's appropriate for my Sharpie. Josh.

CRAIGSLIST! I find awesome deals on there all the time. Picked up a Mantua Cutty Sark - $600 kit. for $150 shipped to my location. Picked up a Prince De Neufchatel- brand new, retails for $400 - I paid $50. People buy them, don't get to them, and let them go for various reasons. Download it to your smart phone and you can search the country in one query. -
I look at this build log and definitely get the feeling that I still have so much to learn. Thanks for all the detailed postings, very educational for this novice modeler.

I'm good home, What kit is this Anthony? Sorry to hear about the black pearl - did you quit the magazine due to delivery issues? This was a black pearl kit that i was considering - maybe you will too if you want to re-ignite your interest. I'd be curious to hear what others think of it too. Josh

Chine Repair help
Azzoun replied to Philinnyc's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
Phil... These things happen, I actually snapped a chine on my Sharpie Schooner that I'm currently working on but not fully through. I attempted to glue it but found that it doesn't keep a smooth bend. However, my snap happened at the most extreme part of the hull curve. Since yours is so close to the transom where it's fairly straight, you might be able to get away with gluing the broken section back in place and adding a reinforcing piece on top. If you used PVA glue (white glue), then rubbing alcohol and gentle nudging will separate the pieces fairly cleanly if you decide to remake/replace the entire part. Hope that helps. Josh -
Looks Amazing Jason, Can't wait to get to my kit!

Len, Enjoying your build log. Really like the textures you added to the cabin houses (I'm assuming you added that). In the kit, were you supposed to plank the deck that way or was that your own innovation? I'm doing the Sharpie Schooner by Midwest (another sharp chined hull) and my deck planking was simulated with etching. Hindsight, I think I would have preferred planking as you did. Josh

Jerry, When I read your logs, I see a lot of me in your discussions- just trying hard to put something nice looking together but trying to remember to enjoy it along the way. Not always being successful at the enjoyment part in place of maybe being a little frustrated. What's refreshing is that your logs give me hope for my future builds because you're tackling a huge project with very nice success. By the way, which kit did you do the Cutty with? Josh

It's going well, we put a deposit on a apartment with an attached garage so I'm excited to set up a shipyard there. And between you, me and MSW, I'm secretly hoping my job search takes a while so I can spend my days modeling and exercising, but don't tell wifey. But the people are incredibly nice here, I'm liking it here. Tonight entertainment is a Jazz cruise on the Steam stern wheeling riverboat Natchez on the Mississippi, should be fun.

What completed it for me was how he had his new toys set up on the glass coffee table for other pics. I was thinking he should enter into the the "where do you do yours" forum. I've taken over a computer desk and small breakfast nook dining room table as my work areas, she's been pretty tolerant so far...lol
