  1. Do I hear the sound of distant war drums beating, you have the guns Sjors but do you have enough balls to conduct a longgggggggggggggg fight, I wonder. Guns are looking good my friend. mobbsie
  2. Hi Guys, Back from my hols and raring to go, hope to have an update fairly soon. I'm currently working on the head rails, mobbsie
  3. Hi Kevin, This weather doesn't come along that often mate, enjoy it while it's here. B) Temp in my conservatory at the moment is a cool 90 degrees, yesterday it made it to a whopping 100, just to hot. mobbsie
  4. Hi Ray, Victory I believe was the only ship of that period that had yellow ochre gun carriages, this was Nelsons ideosyncracy. The other ships were usually painted with red ochre. Hope that helps mate. mobbsie
  5. Hi Caroline, Good fix on the head rails, you would never know there was a problem in the first place, well done. I am looking forward to seeing more progress, but no rush. mobbsie
  6. Hi All, Thank you for all your very kind comments and well wishes for our coming holiday. Hamilton, the guns didn't take that long to rig because I had previously made up the blocks and tackles for them, all I had to do after that was to attach the hooks to the eyebolts, apart from the Flemish coils, it made life so much easier than having to rig in situ. Martin, there does seem to be a great amount of rope but when you consider the recoil of the guns and the space needed for them to be reloaded I suppose quite a lot was used, also the coils were the very devil to make and didn't come as I would have liked but I dislike making them and didn't want to remake them. Frank & Sherry, there are a lot of guns and still more to come, I only have 64 so I can imagine what it must be like for the 100 + ships. All those carriages would drive me nuts. I still like the patented gun paint work although I know it's not historically correct and not good enough for the purists but I think it looks good. I have been working on the Head Rails today, it's been a bit disjointed with all the prep for the hols and lunch with my old work colleagues so not too much achieved, the coils are now all done thankfully, I really must find a decent method for making them. See you all when I get back. mobbsie
  7. Hi Guys, Thanks you for lookin in and the very kind comments and remarks. I have a bit of an update, probably the last one for a short period as the Admiral and I are off for a few days up north, Northumberland for a bit of hill and fell walking, all around Kielda forest. Deck furniture for the upper gun deck is fitted as are the guns, the guns are rigged but I'm waiting for the flemish coils to dry so I can finish them off, that's the only fault with the system I use, drying time, must learn to be patient.!!!!!!!!!!!!! No hick ups during this stage which is always a bonus. Some pics That's it folks, I hope you enjoy the pics. Back soon mobbsie
  8. Nicely done my friend, looking reeeeaaaaaaaaal good. mobbsie
  9. Nicely done Adriann, Lights look fantastic. Glad you were able to get your head back to solving the problems, job well done mate. She's look great. mobbsie
  10. My guess is that Augie spoke to the moose, the moose spoke to the fish and they in turn found the oldest amongst the shoal and sacrificed it to Augies hook. Hope the last day went better for you mate, I understand that fish respond more to female pheromones, perhaps you should bring out the feminine side. mobbsie
  11. Hamilton, that is very impressive mate, I love the innovation with the stern windows, very clever. well Done mobbsie
  12. Welcome to my world Grant, hope the fix works out. mobbsie
  13. Hi Sjors, Hope the day is going well for you mate. To my eye that looks so much better, nice paint job. mobbsie
  14. Hi Pierre, You have a bit of a dilemma there mate, my thoughts are that unless you have the materials and the machinery to do the job correctly it's time to call it a day and buy new plates. From what you have said you've looked at it from every direction and still can't come up with a satisfactory conclusion, time I think to give in gracefully. When you start on plating the Aggie I found it easier to put two small dabs of thick CA on the plate, I tried putting the CA on the planks and then place the plate, but it ended up getting messy due to the glue drifting over the edge of the plate. Hope this helps mate. mobbsie
  15. Christian, you are one busy bunny, most people only have a glass case for their builds. Diana is looking really impressive mate. Hope the weather stays fair for you during the rest of your house build, go careful on them ladders. mobbsie
  16. Thanks everybody for the good words. Not this time mate, I'll save Sjors for the more complicated fixes. Grant, I may be in a position to start the rigging sometime in 2014, least that's what the Admiral is hoping, still got to make the rope server yet.!!!!!!!!!! Andy your right, there's plenty of trim to go on. Barbossa, You have hit the nail on the head mate, I've had to tinker with both the Badger and Granado transoms. mobbsie
  17. Hey Augie, That's one great rigging job mate, must be getting near a pic update soon, looking forward to it. mobbsie
  18. Hi Sjors, A very happy birthday to you my friend, I hope Anja treats you to lots & lots. mobbsie
  19. Back again, Hi Wayne, Thanks mate, Sjors cant help it you know, his first book was a picture book. Not to much to show and the pics are not brilliant but here goes. Completed Bow cheeks apart from drilling them out That's all I have for now, the repair looks worse than it is and at the moment I'm happy with it, who knows what tomorrow may bring. Be good mobbsie
  20. Hi Guys, I have a few pics of the progress so far, and not all is as it should be. The hull is painted and apart from constant touching up looks OK, I've started to make some of the deck furniture for the upper gun deck, such as ladders, capstan, gratings and the cooker. I am at the stage now where the guns should be fitted but I thought I would have a look at what needs to be done prior to that so as to minimise any damage, so I dry fitted the transom, it didn't fit. It was 3mm below where it should be and so started the refit. The balcony deck had to be removed and the whole transom lifted by the required amount, this then left a large gap underneath which then had to be filled. A plank was cut out using the spru as a template, this was then fitted into place and any gaps filled with filler, the whole thing is now finished and painted. One casualty which I didn't notice was the portside quarter window, the glazing had come away and had dropped halfway down, this has now been removed and I will glaze the actual window before fixing it in. One word of warnIng to all who are building the Aggie, watch that transom, do a dry fit before fitting the stern balcony and make any adjustments as necessary. Enough said, some pics. Deck Fittings Starboard Quarter View Starting to fit the bow cheeks. Portside Quarter View The whole Starboard side The offending Transom with balcony deck removed Another view, notice the port quarter window has moved. I now have to download some pics of the completed repair and I will post those just as soon as I can. Be good mobbsie
  21. Hi Paddy, None of the gun tackles were ever tarred mate, on any guns, not just the 9 pounders. hope that helps. mobbsie
  22. Hi Andy, Don't know what you've said to Popeye mate but it looks like he turning his attentions to Wayne, you can breath again now. mobbsie
