  1. Crikey! That's an old photo, mate. The Craig hasn't been on that side of the bridge for a lot of years. John
  2. Now that looks very nice indeed, Tom! John
  3. Ollie, The spectacle iron on my Stag. It's bolted to the stem and is a fairly loose fit on the bowsprit. John
  4. Ollie, The bowsprit definitely needs to be "flatter" - almost no upward rake would be about right. It was probably secured by an iron pin through the bitts. It was quite common for the top of a cutter's bowsprit to be about level with the top of the rail, although King's paintings appear to show it sitting on top of the rail. How is it secured at the bow - by a spectacle iron? John
  5. Tiny bit of an improvement there, Danny! No wonder she's happy with the work! John
  6. Ollie, Sounds like this will make a great model! Considering where you live, you may have to find a small piece of coral to jamb into the lower part of the hull! Remember that we have the Endeavour replica here in Sydney, so if you want photos of any particular detail down the track, just yell. John
  7. Haven't been by for a few days, Piet. She's really coming on well and looking a treat! John
  8. Kats, I have to admit that when you started I really doubted that you'd ever get to the finish line - it just looked too big and too complicated a project. You've done wonders, mate! My warmest congratulations on a very complex job beautifully brought to a conclusion. John
  9. OK, in the specific case you have, then the flags would be blowing towards the bow as you thought. John
  10. Another minor point regarding ships at anchor. They may not be riding to the wind, but to the tide, or a combination of both, depending on the relative strengths of wind and tide, so flags on an anchored ship could still be blowing in any direction. John
  11. That looks like it will be an interesting build. John
  12. Thanks Pete and Bob! Bob - If I leave the camera at the museum I then have two problems - 1) How do I transfer the photos to my computer, and 2) I've been using my wife's camera as mine is a bit big and bulky to take in! John
  13. Ollie, I think she'll look better with no sheer-pole! Good to see that you've rigged the top rope. These little ships were ridiculously "over hatted" as the 19th century sailing ship men said - over rigged for us mere mortals - they needed to be able to get the top hamper off pretty quickly if the wind started to blow up too much. John
