  1. The Cherry Ballart is a nice contrast for the planksheers, Danny - ain't that a delightful timber to work! John
  2. Steve, Good to hear that you had a great day on the 'Craig'. The only problem with your 'revelation' on the 'Craig's' mizzen, is that schooners generally didn't have standing gaffs like most barques, but hoisting gaffs. John
  3. Augie, Robbyn's right. As painful as it must be, it will help other members to know what happens in real live builds. Perhaps some 'before' and 'after' photos once you have everything shipshape again together with a brief explanation of how you fixed it would be helpful. John
  4. Michael, Are you making a piece of art work, or the cabin of a pilot cutter? John
  5. She's looking mighty fine, Mobbsie. As for your extended strops, at model scales we sometimes need to make little compromises to get the whole thing to look right in the end. John
  6. The cutter has certainly worked well, Michael! John
  7. Thanks for the update, Lars - it's good to see her still going ahead! John
  8. Three in a row and all framed up - great stuff, Popeye! As for a re-visit - it's hard enough getting the bank manager to agree to England to visit my mum-in-law (now 93), let alone extending to North America! John
  9. I'm with Ed and Druxey on that - the mortises make the fitting of the cant frames much easier. John
  10. Piet, you might think that you have little to show for your days work, but I think you've made excellent progress. John
  11. She's really coming along there, Gil! Good work, mate! John
  12. Hmmm. I think the moral of the storey is - stay out of the water in Northern Europe! John
  13. Just out of interest, this contemporary painting from 1775 of HMS Deal Castle might put the pristine neatness of naval ships decks and ropes into perspective. I particularly like the goat free on deck! John
  14. Very nicely done indeed, Grant. That yard looks excellent! John
  15. Those coils certainly look very lifelike at the moment, Danny. Maybe if the fabric setting gel does leach out of them they'll be 'set' if or when it happens. John
  16. Hey, come on Popeye - no holding out - pictures, man, we want pictures!! John
  17. Likewise the Trincomalee's long guns. John
