do you enjoy modeling.......you seem to have a knack for it. what you learn from this model, can be applied to future models. I hope by the time your finished, you will see the fun and creativity and continue I've had a few bargains in my day, especially with the Revell series of 1:96 scale kits. the kits go for around $89.99........I got my second United States kit for $45.00.....I forget what I paid for the Cutty kit on E-bay, but it was a good buy. I recently acquired the Constitution kit for $15.00!........couldn't close that deal fast enough! felt like I was given a million bucks! your doing some seriously nice work here........look forward in seeing more progress

believe me Bob........with YOUR abilities, I would never hold it against you I prefer larger as well, but whatever falls out of the box.....ya gotta build it thanks for the good word! thanks OC......I have an optivisor, but I can't stand nothing that large on me. I have different reading glasses.......1.50 2.00 2.50.......I can't wear the latter for very long. I did a little more yesterday on her......the props are on and now working on the anchors and chain. should have an other update very soon thanks for the likes!

will you be adding in the adjustment tool seen in the diagram? chances are, there was one for all of the shroud 'stations' {port and starboard, at all three masts} it would be neat to see them hanging on the inner bulwarks

I got busy first thing........I progressed further on the Helicopters. the tail rotors are tipped and in place. the main rotors were tipped at this time.....even the folded ones. I did a dry fit of the finished 'chopper then with the folded rotors.... the flags were added to the stands......then paint. the missiles were added to the launcher....waiting for touch ups almost to the point where these parts can be added to the ship......just a bit more work

it's good you won something......hope that kit isn't as sparse as the Cutty as that scale....I recall the Cutty being 1:150. I read your laments hey there Lawrence......I saw your post the other day....had to run out and didn't have time to reply. now the Christmas holiday is bearing down, but I'll try not to let it slow me down. I have a bit more to go on the Jeanne D'Arc, and then I can probably get back to some wood building.........ohhhh........my inner person is saying Yessssss! I got the belaying pins from Cornwall boats...looked in the Amati listings. it was the first one I went into that listed smaller ones...the ones I got in the kit looked like knewl post toppers! the belaying pins are 5 mm.

as you can see, the CA makes the rope look darker.......unless you have some paint, the same color as the rope, it may distract from the appearance. I would use white glue....when dry, the rope will remain the same color. what your doing looks great.......nice fix on the cannon noticed you have a dollop on the tube....did the tube split there? sad but fairly common problem with the Tubed products...happens to me with glue every once in a while. never saw Squadron putty before......I thought they sold one

clear plastic can be a pain to cut.......it's raw plastic with no color additives to soften it. you've done an amazing job there Greg...quite a bit given the time line

I finally finished those non ship kits.....three drag racing cars.....I toyed with them here and there. thought it time to get them done. if anyone is interested in seeing them, you can see them here: http://wenzelsautobody.wordpress.com/ anyway......now that I'm done with those, I can get back to Jeanne and hopefully finish her........it's all the goal to clear the main table. basically, I did bunch of prep painting and minor assembly to the last few parts. I had cemented together the davits earlier last week. they need painting..... the props were painted about the same timeline.... today.......in between decorating the tree.......I did some painting and minor assembly. the flags were painted....I was relieved to see I had all three flat colors for them. might be hard to see......but I did the windows on the Helicopters. then the tail rotors were cut from their sprues, and tipped with flat yellow hopefully tomorrow, I can have more time to go further.

ohhhhhh....you mean Bazooka gum! shoot....I can get that by the tub full! I'm mostly a white glue and Ca guy.......just wish I could remember that other cement I used to use {came in a yellow tube}. there are other glues out there.......I'm so used to what I use {kinda stuck in my ways}, never think to try something else. I had an urge the other day to start measuring out yards for her.........been busy with life things and non related projects, that it never happened. all this talk is making me all peckish........versuvient! I need to get back to this one.....caught myself chew'in on some basswood the other day I think it's time I started to make sawdust again thanks for the head's up OC.

I've not seen that type of cement around here. I can't recall the cement I used when I built the Nordkap......something along the lines of the old Ambroid cement. I wonder if Ambroid is still around? I know the company has been sold to Northeast.....I have their site bookmarked. CA doesn't even work.....no joke

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
