  1. I have a minor update to this project.......I've been busy putting the finish on a couple of non related projects. after disastrous affair with the decals, I worked up the courage to try and finish the deck. I still need to repair the center line......but the caution stripe around the elevator needs to be in place to do it. as I figured, the decal broke into five segments......unfortunately, I was only able to utilize four of them {shoulda used the decal bonder}. live and learn. I might have a way out though......I might be able to fix this using HO train decals.....but only if they don't come out glossy. I'll see how it goes
  2. I hope your waiting a day or so, before you sand the marks away. early sanding can cause the paint to 'bunch up'. looks to be a fairly easy problem to fix
  3. you may need a stealer at the stern, but you will need to taper at the bow. then you can raise the plank and have room for the rest of the bow planking. you'll likely end up tapering them all. starting from the bulwarks, you can do full planks until you get to the wales......but then it starts to get dicey......that's when the 'turn' begins. at that point, all the tapering will occur at the top of the plank. from the keel {the way your doing it now}, the tapering will need to be done on the bottom edge of the planking. lay your planking and you'll see just how much you'll need to trim them. if you plan it right, you won't have to use anything at the bow......stealers or jogging. hope this helps you.
  4. the deck and bulwarks look super Per. regarding the stern......if this was a Billing's kit, there is a mistake on the old and newer production of the model. the keel spine on the older kit is 300 mm, while the newer production measures it at 310 mm. it's misleading that they show rounded transom as well...especially up at the stern bulwarks. so, when the cap rail is added, it won't fit correctly. the keel problem really doesn't add to the transom woes, but creates a nasty gap at the deck division. the transom problem does though.....had the same problem with the AmericA. you did very well to alleviate that.....something I will have to take care of when I start my Bluenose project. really like that way you did it
  5. hello.....a big welcome from the northeast! you'll definitely have to start a build log on her.......looks really sweet! does your company carry scribed wood? I used to get some from the Ambroid company before they changed over to Northeast...haven't found another place since.
  6. too funny.........first thing that came to mind was.......what....spit?!?!?! still very resourceful.......but if you two persist in these follies, you won't have a stitch of clothing left
  7. well, if you didn't use it, it could serve as a very nice cutter straight edge the deck looks really nice......the pattern shows pretty good. we all have our carpet monsters......I happen to have a furry one. he like to take his trophies to his cave of doom {under our bed}. I'm sure your missing turret will turn up....
  8. looks very nice OC........given the problems your having with your hands, your producing some top notch work did you find something to combat the effects? glad to see your doing better.
  9. really nice Michael I was looking at the gammoning as I came in here.......couldn't how symmetrical the windings looked. bound in much the same way, the assembly takes on a realistic appearance. your ropes and their termination have a nice quality to them wonderful...really shows the time your putting into them.
  10. heck yea ! gotta have those monkey chains nicely done......and the stern set up looks really sweet too
  11. I've not seen this build. though your missing a few pictures, I can see the good work your putting into her very nice progress so far!......love the colors!
  12. tuning in from my work week Scott....you've made some really nice progress! the super structure looks really nice with the railings.....very good paint work as well. I've got three of the life color sets......haven't tried to use them yet. I use enamels for all of my models, although I have a few acrylic colors kick'in around. the Testor thinner that I use comes with a secondary cap....a sort of plug to prevent leakage. I use it though to measure out the amount of thinner to prep the paint. since the EZ airbrush I use, uses the 1/4 oz bottles as the siphon pot, I just mix up the whole bottle......I get empty bottles by buying the 1/4 oz thinners. I use Model Master as well, for the flats, but they come in 1/2 oz bottles, so it's good to have the extra bottles. look online for conversion charts.....they can also give reference to the difference brands and what to use. for the particular model though.....I guess you'd have to see if anyone published that information. it is out there though........your doing a really nice job!
  13. never though of using material like that?!?!?! awesome idea! very nice job......what cement did you use?
