  1. You might also look into the Master Korabel boats. They're 1:72 but might work if modified. I've not had any luck building the Model Expo ones, but the Master Korabel worked for me.
  2. Thanks for sharing this build log. It's been something totally different than what we normally see and quite fascinating.
  3. Count me in also. I may not know much of the period but I learn something from every build.
  4. Off topic, slightly. Does Bob's retirement mean that Seawatch will be closing and all the books will become unavailable?
  5. Hi Jon, The others have provided excellent advice about your question so I'll just say "Welcome to MSW".
  6. Count me in on following this. Should be impressive to see on the water. As a side note.. I gather this RC and not "fire and forget" that goes on a preset course? If it is, I'll be glad to add "Radio" to the title.
  7. Steven,. I was just speculating using Occam's Razor Something of those weights probably could be raised by hand.
  8. Perhaps.. this seems to be more used as a Q&A area. Look in the Scratch Build area. If you want to search that area, just use the keyword "Radio" and you should kit a list of all the builds.
  9. Welcome to MSW, Dan.
  10. I'm thinking the anchor rope would be removed from the anchor and then stowed somewhere just to keep it from being underfoot. As I recall reading somewhere.... the anchors weren't all that heavy and so a windlass might not have been needed for that. Windless only used for raising masts then. Which makes me wonder, if the same line for the anchor was also used to raise and lower the masts.
  11. I would say #2 if that is closer to mid-ship. It could be the angle of the photo of #1 looks too far forward.
  12. Les, What Ryland suggested is good advice. You also might ask your question here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/26-plastic-model-kits/ as it will get more eyeballs than here in the introductions. Welcome to MSW.
  13. Welcome to MSW, Dave. I'll offer a few thoughts on your model building.... First.. open a build log of your own. It's a great way to get help and meet other builders. Second, do a search in the Kit area for the model you are building and you can see how others have solved problems. Lastly, make sure you're having fun. Building ship models is a great way to relax and to be creative.
  14. The best place to ask about wood is here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/20-wood-discussionwhere-to-use-it-where-to-get-it-what-types-are-best-how-to-finish-it/ Once you get there, use the search feature and see if there's already been a question asked. I suggest you explore MSW. Get comfortable with it. There's good places and not so good places to ask questions about "how to", " what do I use".. etc.
  15. Welcome to MSW, Mike. I think you're on the right track. We all make mistakes, even the most experienced make them, so no judgement, just help offered. Enjoy the trip not just the destination as this hobby is very self rewarding.
  16. Jerry, I changed the title a bit to give others a clue as to what you are looking for. I also moved it to the proper forum.
  17. Not in the wood world but very common in the plastic word from what I see here.
  18. I think the answer is simply: "Because they can". I understand that drawings, etc. take time and there's a limited market but I too have a hard time understanding some of the pricing.
