  1. Derek, from a smoky Pacific northwest I welcome you to MSW.
  2. Well, it's amazing what poly-wipe-on does to wood. Something that is important is to raise all the structure by 1/16 the same as the deckplanking.
  3. Well, I got the hatch made. In Bob Hunts practicum it's mention that the top is to be umber colored, but since I had mahogany laying around. I used that material instead, turned out nice in my opinion.
  4. So the hatch is being constructed, the framing support are spot on for hatch and planking. Here is the hatch just put (not glued) in place. Hopefully my planking will be as good so I won't have any gaps around the structures.
  5. More framing in place, getting time to start working the superstructure. This as they are needed prior decking.
  6. So I thought going the more challenging way, by creating framing support for the coamings and deck structure. This means I have to jump in between chapters.
  7. Got a baby smooth hull, I am really happy. Since I have the waterways fully exposed, I decided to give them a first layer of buff/light grey.
  8. The Chinese Britannia casting parts for Bluenose, some of the parts I might to make myself as a replacement, specially the windlass. But it's sad seeing ModelExpo having parts manufactured abroad, to be shipped half the world while they do their own casting in Florida.
  9. For the record, the paper isn't blue either, just the temperature in the shady area creating this illusion. It's wierd.......
  10. A second layer later........ thanks to temperatures in mid 80's it's drying fast. Once this layer is dry, more putty and sanding for final finish before painting.
  11. First thin primer layer applied to the hull. And I like it...... this as there was no wind outside.
  12. Some 600 grit sanding and some touch up putty. Then time for primer of the hull. Almost to that point, shaping of the bow is first to be done.
  13. All the waterways are done, hull has been "putted" and sanded. There was a lot of sanding, but the outcome was pleasing to my eye. The hull has gotten one layer of Wipe-On-Poly. Now drying in the sun. Perfect day for outdoor work such as sanding and wipe on.
  14. Looking great, I am still working to get a nice finish of the hull before next step.
  15. One week and being Newbie, and gotten this far, painting and putting the friezes in already. Great job.
