  1. The Chinese Britannia casting parts for Bluenose, some of the parts I might to make myself as a replacement, specially the windlass. But it's sad seeing ModelExpo having parts manufactured abroad, to be shipped half the world while they do their own casting in Florida.
  2. For the record, the paper isn't blue either, just the temperature in the shady area creating this illusion. It's wierd.......
  3. A second layer later........ thanks to temperatures in mid 80's it's drying fast. Once this layer is dry, more putty and sanding for final finish before painting.
  4. First thin primer layer applied to the hull. And I like it...... this as there was no wind outside.
  5. Some 600 grit sanding and some touch up putty. Then time for primer of the hull. Almost to that point, shaping of the bow is first to be done.
  6. All the waterways are done, hull has been "putted" and sanded. There was a lot of sanding, but the outcome was pleasing to my eye. The hull has gotten one layer of Wipe-On-Poly. Now drying in the sun. Perfect day for outdoor work such as sanding and wipe on.
  7. Looking great, I am still working to get a nice finish of the hull before next step.
  8. One week and being Newbie, and gotten this far, painting and putting the friezes in already. Great job.
  9. Sadly to say, but yes..... many of their items are straight rip offs. Easy to see. One of their drill press is a no-name of a Skil drill press. Or was don't know if they still carry the item.
  10. Jack, I think I bought the saw from Micro-Mark, but in the future I will do my homework before buying from them. This as they carry a lot of "ripp-offs" from China. One great example is the table saw, which is a Proxxon ripp-off.
  11. Worldway, thank you for the kind words. Teehee, glad that hull is being painted, had to do some covering of flaws.
  12. I have turned my attention to the other side, and working on the fills between the bulkhead. The instructions is showing three planks for the waterway, I have chosen two, one wider for the inside of the bulkhead and a fillers between. Lots of cutting and trimming, but I think this will be very nice once done. Sadly all this will be painted. I am now alternating between the Bluenose and Syren, it's a nice change.
  13. All my 40 of 15/32" are cut. Am now in a switching mode between Syren but also Bluenose. Meaning I am alternating between the two.
  14. So, the simplest of simplest, my jig for cutting 40 each of 15/32" parts. I used the stick for the height between sills and lintel, placed it on right hand side of the blade of my chop saw. A 1x1" aluminium L profile sat in place with strong masking tape (not good at all when it comes to cover unwanted painted area, ripps the surface where it is attached off). As a trial I cut 10 posts, and all came out perfect for cannon openings. Cutting time less than a minute.
  15. This morning I was told to slow down with my build. A friend building Syren wants to keep even steps with me. So tonight, I am to work out a jig to cut 40 each of 15/32" posts. This jig will be attached to the chop saw.
  16. Less is More, was one of mottos with a company I worked for back in the 80's. But how does one apply that to ship modeling?
  17. Didn't get as much building done as I wanted during the weekend. Only one lintel left to install.
  18. Floyd, no sanding so far. I have an idea for the chop saw, once I have it tried out (hopefully this afternoon) I will let you know.
