Watching you make the boats has provided me with solutions to problems I'd been worried about with my own build.

 

The wooden strip screwed onto the plug at gunwale height to hold the frames at the top, and the push-pins you use to hold the frames at intermediate positions are brilliant.

 

Are these just normal push-pins as are used on a notice board in an office? I tried copying your technique with a pine plug and the pins wouldn't go very far into the wood. Are you using a soft wood for your plug?

 

Your build is looking very good.

these are normal push pins as in the office be used.
For the shape I use lime tree wood. This is soft, but hard enough
to hold the needle.

Thanks Johann. Radiata pine just seems too hard to take the push pins easily, but the plug is already made, so I'm stuck with it. I'll have to figure out some other method, but it will probably be based on yours. Thanks for the inspiration.

Try pre-drilling the holes just ever so slightly smaller than the pins.  I found that works pretty good.
