Sponge diving boat trechandiri (tirhandil) by mhmtyrl - Finished

Recommended Posts

hello every body

based on the reccomendations I have made some restoration on the boat; a new layer of paint and replacement of the broken plank on the engine cover.

more over, I have added some moss and sea creature formations under the water line with masking fluid and salt, later to be painted with different shades of green

hope looks more sea worthy :-)

Now that is one well-used diving boat.  Looks like the boats I've seen over the years where the owner would fix what's broken and then go fishing/diving.

Great work Mehmet, you can see boats like this in the Greek islands. I enjoy walking in the harbours and occasionally you come across an old boat, dirty and run down which stands out amongst the other better maintained boats. Some have been sitting idle for years or the owner has aged and is equally run down to really care. But to be honest your boat would be the worst I ve seen!  :D Still, amazing work. Makes you want to take it on as a restoration project!

Hi Mehmet

You know...it's taken me 30 years for my models to look like yours, but you've been able to do it in a matter of days! Admittedly, my RC boats have been rotting away in the garden shed for these 30 past years. One day I'll take them out and give them some attention.

Seriously, though, I'm totally in awe of your weathering techniques.

Marvellous.

Cheers

Patrick

Hello Mehmet,

On the last posted pictures of your model the model looks more worn out than the boat named Aksona. Although with the paint and the replacement plank, the model looks genuine and realistic. I would say: go on, just don't exaggerate. I like your work!
Happy New year

Nicely done om the weathering.  It tells a tale of a vessel that has seen many days at sea.

David B

actually these sponge boats used to leave the shore on around may and were at sea until october for sponging all around the Turkish coast of Aegean and Mediaterrian seas. depending on the circumtances they could get to the shore for one night or smthing. for around 6 months about 4 to 5 people were living on the same boat...

a Turkish saying about spongers;  "a sponge diver earns his life without a drop of sweat, and dies without a single breath"

I have made exhaust pipe, diving shoes, anchor and diving weight and dried sponges for my model, very close to end.

by the way, do you people think that it looks better without the name painting?

next is to attach the ladder, bucket and emptied bottle :-)

Mehmet I like the detailing that you have done to give this model  a well worn but maintained look, I wonder if displaying it on a piece of beach by the edge of the water would be a fitting way to display it? It seems to be more suited to that sort of display than a typical cradle.
