Question to all: Does anyone know if the "Chebece" had ballast stones? Logically, it would be because of the low draft and thus the risk of capsizing. Boudriot shows nothing in his plans. The large stern grating has the fore and aft planks raised higher than the thwartship planks. This seems to me to be rather dangerous and could cause a person to catch a foot in this gap and trip up (stolpern) Then,I see in a later photo taken below the stern and notice that the grating planks appear to be flush with each other. No criticism meant, just an observation but I would have thought this should be the top side of the grating giving a level area to walk upon.
