Now, to answer the question of What is oil canning? You can see the side of the hull in this photo that shows the ribs.

Now this brass deck is a gift that keeps giving. No matter how clean little bits keep peeling off with the masking.

Little bits of patch up to do, then more little bits of masking to do the visible deck hatches. Once that is done, I can start on filters and washes, then the dreaded decals.

The clear coat coat on the fire deck bleached the paint for some reason so I have to mess around with that for a bit too.

Greg,

I love the oil canning.  Tedious but effective.

On the brass deck, I'm not familiar with brass decks but would roughing up the surface a bit with some extremely fine sandpaper or steel wool work?   I had to do that once on a metal car model.

Greg,

Do you really need to use a sticky mask on the brass, can't you use a paper template? Else you'll be needing an etching primer, however,  that one I wouldn't advise to use in your H&S brush

Slow progress with so many little pieces to bend then paint. I enlarged the deck plans on a photocopier so I could place all the pieces in order for painting and placement. Once I have added them all and hand painted a few bits I can start weathering. Lots of pieces to go. The Spruance is a little different then the kit when it comes to placement of certain things.

Ok, the mast on this thing is more complicated than a tall ship! At time you know when you’ve hit the level of incompetence. I think if Pontos didn’t reply on the kit mast to build upon it would have made the think possible to align at least. It’s pretty much a 4 day build, the other deck fittings and radar domes are ready for paint.

Now I’ve done a fair bit of PE over the past few years and this would just be the hardest/ most horrible piece ever. I think if the whole thing was metal it would be easier as it would align properly.

Anyways, that’s the main structure done, lots of bits to add to the yard arms,  but you can see the difference with the little grey circle in the pliers to what Pontos provides why I keep taking the pain.

Having at last received the PE needed for the Admiral's 1/350th Titanic and seeing how small this stuff really is, your comment strikes fear into the very depths of my soul!

It is truly amazing what you are able to accomplish with your builds!
