Evening all,    thank you all sincerely for all the likes and replies,    today I had a break from the canon building and started work on the catheads, in the kit these are plastic and attach to the outside of the hull,  but I decided to make them from wood stock 2 x 2mm,  these  sit on the deck of the forecastle deck and protrude through the railngs there,   first I had to  file away a square cut out in the hull using my box file,  I kept testing with  the  timber till I got a flat cut out.

Then I cut the timber to length and drilled two holes in the end for the anchor support ropes.

Here's  the pics  -

A bit of a tale to tell folks with a warning in it,    my laptop that I use to post here and communicate with the outside world, has been nursing a sick battery for most of the year - it has got to the stage where I get 10 minutes run time out of it,  and now have to keep my power leed plugged in all the time  -   anyway  I saw a  PC/laptop spares  place online based in the UK (where I live)  and it was selling the exact battery from the original manufacturer, and at a reasonable price  (not too low to make me susspect a dudd  and also not over expensive)  so I thought  give them a try.

I paid on my card  then a few days latter recieved an email  from a company I didn't know stating a parcel was being shipped and gave a tracking number  -  I have since wound out that a few international transaction card fees have also been taken out,  and the tracking number is a dudd.

I decided to do a bit of digging online about this company and found  Absolute loads and loads and loads  of negative complaints and Warnings as they are a Scam,    and based in the Far East  - all the contact stuff on thier website (that looks legit)  is  dudd  - phone number taht doesn't exsist  and there retail address on the so called website in the UK?   is for a old persons retirement home.

So I've been conned dont know if I will be able to claim my money back through my bank.

Just shows how we can all be conned so easily🤬🤬

Call your credit card company and tell them it's a fraudulent charge. Don't know what the UK laws are but here in the US you are either not liable at all or only get nicked for $50 USD.  Either way most cards have fraud protection for the cardholder.

Thanks jack,   just been looking on my banks website  reading thier rules and info  for such  claims,  just worry they may expect the  - so called company to put thier side of the story first  - just dont want this dragging out all over xmas.

Its been a tough enough year without this now.🤬

I've been emailing this so called company all evening  trying to get it canceled and my money back  - but nothing from them.

Did you pay through Paypal, thats another protection method to avoid loosing through these scams

Posted (edited)

Sad to hear all this OC.

Jack and Kevin are right. Your best bet is if you had dealt through PayPal. They are pretty straight forward and relatively easy to work with. Your C card may not be so easy. They almost always will cover it but sometimes the way they do it is to cancil the old card and issue you a new one! While you are waiting for the new card you will of course be without a card. Not really something to look forward to at this time of year. That is what happened to my wife while on one of her trips a few weeks ago! The card she uses for all her trips had an issue and we had to shut it down. As she was not carrying any of our other cards, (We only use the one, and then only on her trips) she didn't really have a convenient way to buy stuff for the remainder of her trip! We ended up getting her a prepaid card to use for a couple of weeks!

I would advise you to just quit trying to deal with the company you bought from. At this point you will either get your battery or you won't. Just deal with your C Card company and chalk the whole thing up as another day. That is pretty much what the C card companies do. This happens to them EVERY day. They just write it off as a cost of doing business.

Just come off the phone with my bank  - they say I have to wait 15 working days, for the battery to turn up or not, then do a Disputed Purchase  through my bank  where by  the bank will  decide if  they should refund me, but they have said its not definate that I will get my money back.

It was purchased using my bank Debit/Visa card  not a  C card as such  so guess the rules are a little different.

Oh well   pooh happens  but its not life or death.

Yes, rules are different for Credit versus Debit - when in doubt always use Credit over Debit.

Hopefully you will get the battery and all will be good in the end,

Carl is right though, list your bank card with PayPal if you have not already, and ALWAYS use it when buying online. If the merchant does not take PayPal then go somewhere else. The scammers don't like having to deal with payPal all that much for some reason. Not quite so true it seems with Amazon.

sorry to hear that OC. You can open a paypal on  a debit card though ...

The trouble  I have is,    my old paypal is in-active as i messed up my old passwords (all realy messed up to be honest)   and although I purchased the battery using my bank card  I was forwarded to paypal to pay for it (but I wasn't logged in to paypal so it was like a generic paypal  home page)  it then opned up my bank authorization page and took the payement.

So im stuck somewere in "limbo land"  somewere between paypal and my bank.

Thanks  for your imput lou,   as I explained above paypal is a mess to be honest,  I used to have an active one but when my previous laptop died last year along with all my pics, I lost my passwords so had to set up another paypal  - I have been fighting with them all this year to allow me to keep my main email account (to avoid confusion  due to my brain.    But they wont let me do that  meaning my paypal is left in limbo.

I paid direct with my card as I assumed a debit/visa card would offer me the same level of protection against scammers etc as a CCard.

I understand its my bank being akward by upholding a 15 period before they (Might) consider doing something,    ok it aint much  £50   but its the principle of the thing and none of us deserve being ripped off.

Hi all,   nothing to show picture wise  today as all I did was to tidy up  6 barrels by adding the nozel ends then scraping the seams along the middle of each barrel,   I then drilled out  twenty holes through the hull sides for the breech ropes to pass thorugh (as I have done before)

your Paypal account should be easy enough to sort out with a password reset, providing you know the email account associated with it, but nice to see you are getting back on with the build, i have just had a nice long four day weekend off with all plans to continue the rigging, absolutely nothing got done as visitors arrived (yep for 4 days}

Thanks kevin,   I chased it up - got into my paypal  and no transactions are showing up in there - so it must have been a scam paypal page the transaction was taken from  - lots and lots of reports about the company (chinese)  people behind the scam.

Yep the Pearl is progressing  slowly  - got most of the hull done minus the canons   then its masts/spars  and fun times with my first ever rigging.

Maybe it's too late for this now, but Amazon has reliable vendors who sell laptop replacement batteries for as little as $20. I presume there is some form of Amazon sales in the UK?

Yes mate  we have amazon,   I will have to wait  to see if my bank will refund me in 12 or so days time.

What is most anoying  the battery I payed for was a gunuine Toshiba one  they work and last so much better than the cheaper  versions out there,  I currently have a cheap one in my laptop  and it lasts about  20 minutes after a full charge (basically  it only lasted a year and has been dying over the last six months)

for rigging depending on what you intend to achieve, you could get away with 0.25. 0.5,  and  1.0 mm threads
