I'm dumbfounded, completely speechless. What a joy to be able to sit at my computer and admire your workmanship, Valerly.

Blown away. I thought the capstan was the ultimate but the ship's telegraph is... is... is mind boggling.

That is just the point. Every time we get to see some kind of miniature perfectly executed masterpiece, it becomes clear that it is not alone and that everything you create for this ship is perfection. I personally am enjoying my front row seat on this journey. My only other choice would be to visit one of the museums in  Zaporizhia someday when you finish it!

OK, the lettering on the top of the capstan is really nice, but I was a bit disappointed that you didn't put the ship's name on the bell!

JOKING!

Have a happy holidays and a happy new year!

PS: Did Vladimir finish his CLG-5 model?

Lou, of course come to Zaporozhye. We have few museums, but there are some very interesting ones for those who like technology. :) :)

Phil, great idea! I'll try to apply it on my next model. :)

Vladimir has almost finished the CLG-5 model, it remains to make boats.

You know that it happens that sometimes the modelers are distracted by other work. ;)

I think I would love seeing BOTH museums. Is that a 1955 Bel Air in the 2nd picture?

Yes, this is a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. It is this specimen that has a special history. Nikita Khrushchev bought this car in Vienna, and then he presented it to Leonid Brezhnev for his collection.

lovely work Valeriy. Why does the bottom of the capstan have a "wave" in  it?

I thought it may have been something like that. I would have thought that getting and maintaining a US manufactured auto in the 50s was not something available to the average Russian citizen. But then getting a Russian auto here in the US would probably have posed the same issues back then. Now days we seem to be able to buy anything we want from ships to tanks to aircraft!

I was wondering the same thing, it looks like it might be for winching a single line of very thick rope ?

Thanks, Keith!

I think that this is a device for winding a wet cable so that it does not slip, or maybe for a temporary stopping of the cable until it is fixed on the bollard or in the stopper.

Ah, - that makes sense. Similar in function to a self tailing winch.
