Welcome back JJ. I agree the lamps are great. Also remember there are 8 more guns in chapter 10! :D

More guns! Yay more fun! Think I’m taking the minimalist approach next time around. Not too keen on rigging 50 guns. But we will see.

So today I concluded chapter 7 and now onto chapter 8! But first I need to finish all the guns on the gun deck.

I decided to go with the cherry capstan kit rather than the AYC, tough decision but I thought it complemented the guns well and manages to stand out enough to not get lost. The deck beams and all the knees went well, when fitting them I left them all just a tad bit high, after they were all complete I came through with a small file board and faired everything out and made sure my run of deck planks will be smooth. What a mess this created but a nice vacuum and a small air compressor made quick work or the clean up.
The lamps went fairly trouble free except I did break one and had to solder in another early on, I’m afraid these are a one time deal and will be impossible to replace if they fail, but Evan’s claims over 2000 hours of running time so I should be good. Even with the lights off the lamps look good I think.
Mounting the pumps and the associated metal work was a nice challenge, I spent a lot of time taking them on and off trying to get them to accommodate for the deck camber. The Crank handles were     A little tricky but not that bad if you take your time.  I took a couple shots with the lamps on with very little light around, the photos show them much brighter and yellower then they actually are but still present well in photos.
Thanks for looking in.

JJ

That is really nice work. The cherry cannons and capstan are a nice touch.  I really like the lanterns, what a way to make it your own and a special work of art.  I look forward to reaching this point some day and having it look half as nice.

Glenn

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

no rest here, I’m right back on guns and rigging away. Problem is I took too long of a break from them and I’m trying to find my way back. Been making some adjustments but I think I’ll be back on track soon. 8 to go then I can start chapter 8… the remaining 4 guns in the waist, well they can wait until chapter 12 lol!

I may make some more cannon to avoid the tabbed plank on the center deck planking belt for a while 🤣

JJ, your model is beautiful! The lights add a whole other dimension and enhances the realism of the ship. Sounds like building those cannons is something to look forward to. 😆 Hang in there!

Thank you James. Yes indeed the cannons are fun, especially if you decide to rig them, I’m trying a new method of building them one at a time now as I need them. I’ll get there eventually.

  • 4 weeks later...

And that concludes chapter 8, opening chapter 9 as I write this, forward progress will begin tomorrow.

I did the same for 8 as chapter 7 with the deck beams and all the knees. Had to finagle the stove in so I could block sand all the beams down fair and make a gigantic mess but it all worked out. One more gun to rig for this chapter and then I’ll finish remaining four after chapter 9. And no more lights!

Thanks for stopping by.

Very nice, plus your photography is so nicely lit.

Thanks Glenn. I’ve been experimenting with lighting. I’ve just been holding my work lamp above until it looks good. Trying to keep a dark background. My photography has been in need of improvement for awhile now lol.

Small progress update, I’ve been working through chapter 9, doing the final onboard planking and the caprails. I’ve have a few small issues with the caprails which all stem from my earlier planking and fairing in the beginning of the project but nothing serious. The worst is in the waist, I had to sand down the spirketting a little more than I wanted, to make it match the sheer, it won’t be too noticeable once the model is complete but I’ll know it’s there. Lesson learned.
taking a week off from work and I plan to finish chapter 9 when I return.
Thanks for stopping by!

Can't see any adjustments made, it looks perfect from here.  I had to make some similar adjustments but fortunately I noticed it before the bulwark planking.  It's all about the making it work, and you have.

Glenn

Very nice work JJ. "Adjustments" are not an issue when you can make them look that good! :)
