Here is a line drawing taken from Speedy designs, please note the gun ports, they are the same for the pre-cut patterns, as they are taken from the pre-cut patterns. They are the same as the original Admiralty draft. I am assuming optical illusions come into play with some pics. They are all 90 degrees to the keel, vertically, but almost follow the sheer, but not quite, as per the original plans.

ETA, Just included the actual laser cut patterns for the gun port parts

As an adviser on other forums

I'd like to see some of your work Bob, I recommend your adding links to galleries or build logs to your signature line so we can see how you do it.

I did a few mistakes with my coppering but i am overall happy with the result. Its the 2nd ship i do this on so i am still learning but now i feel comfortable for the next time (Diana). The kit included two sheets of copper and its plenty of metal over.  These sheets are way better than the Caldercraft version so i might have to upgrade for my future builds....

Just a short note as a reminder that Speedy would have flown a pre 1800 Ensign, without the St Patrick's Cross. Her ensign could have been red, white or blue, depending under which Admiral she sailed.

I do not remember who wrote it but someone said if you see something on your model that you are not happy with you better go back and fix it because otherwise that will be the only thing you see when you look at the finished model...

At this stage of build the gunports can easily be reshaped. You may use a thin strip of stainless steel as a guide. Just clamp it in the correct position, roughly shape the port and use a needle file for the last steps. The steel strip will act as a border and is hard to damage with the file. You can achieve very clean edges this way.

Yeah, you're going to want to fix that. Careful and light application of your #11 blade and flat file should take care of it. Once painted red it will be lost to the eye with the completed model.

After some time off from my Speedy, I have started to work on the tiny parts. Some are really difficult and perhaps not of the best quality (!) but I think it mostly depends on outsourced lasercutting. I got one  of the first kits and looking at the upgrades and what Chris have done with his own lasermachine I think they are way better now.

I decided to plint these black but i might do a few of my own in boxwood to match the colours.

Most of the precut stuff are great and make the work much easier. I also start to be friends with my airbrush but still have alot to learn.

I still havent decided about rigging the canons. They are really small so it will require some hard work.

I’ll be interested in your opinion on the lathe. I’ve just used my drill to turn wood all these years. I’ve got to learn how to use the mill I just bought before any new toys, I mean tools.

Welcome from Estonia. Really superb build!

I just got same workshop setup with Proxxon tools as they had -20% summer sale plus addition vat off(lathe, disk sander, ks230 saw, delta sander). Havent tried all them out yet but disksander itself is gift from god compared to hand sanding....

I was also looking extension for lathe but i only saw that in Australia. Any idea where to het it in EU?

The sander is the tool I use the most. Not sure where you can get the extension, but it has a special construction where you place the dovel through a hole so you can put long pieces into the lathe and work on its end.  Its not like the normal lathe where you squeeze the dovel from end to end.

I really like the style of this cradle,  i will probably design similar for my Caldercraft kits also.

The photo etched plate look amazing!

The Proxxon lathe really delivered!

A couple of evenings and now all dovels have been sanded down to the right dimension.

I also tested putting up the masts and suddenly she got way bigger. This will become a very beautiful ship!

Hmmm... I am not sure where the rest of these dovels is suppose to be mounted on the ship... ? i feel like after IKEA and you dont have a clue if the leftover screws are extra or vital to the furniture... 😛

The better way - you'll not like it later if you don't.

I expect the same encouragement when I'm faltering on rigging Flirt 🙂
