Shouldn't you put the top up first Jack? It is looking pretty cold out there and you could end up with Pop- Sickle Kids!:stunned::(

I am still shocked at how much the Future changes the finish and the looks of not only the paint but the unpainted plastic as well. Too bad about the windscreen.

I have been having the same problem with my new nemesis, Photo Etch!:(

Edward, Mike, Craig, Denis, Lou thanks.

Denis, not sure what is next. I have 2 wood small boat kits, another 1:350 scale US Destroyer USS Sherman I think, sitting on the stash pile.  Not sure if I want to do wood or plastic. And I still have the full scale 1:1 ice yacht restoration.

Lou,  do you really think a seasoned ice boater needs to put the top up to go for a ride on a sunny Feb or March day ? Especially after routinely gliding across the frozen ice of the Hudson river at 40 to 50 mph on a brisk sunny day with air temps between 20 and 30 Fahrenheit?  :D  You do need to come East and enjoy some real Winters ! ;):D

Lou,  a typical weekend in the Valley in March (well, pre-Climate Change at least) - a gathering of friends on the ice for some culinary delights and a bit of sailing with the fleet.

I might question the term "Gentlman" as a descriptive term for that guy. "Looney", or possibly "Whackadoodle" might fit better in my mind. At least he is wearing boots and long sleeves. But then many people around here must think they live in Florida and wear shorts year around. I can do it, If people don't mind being blinded by my pale skin that never sees  a proper sun, but not normally when I am just standing about not doing anything. Back in my hiking days I had no problem, and even preferred hiking in shorts even when snow was on the ground but when I stopped or reached camp I had to get some pants on! By the same token I do not do well in heat either. I have lived in the PNW so long that there is little need for my metabolism to become adjusted to much outside of cooler room temperatures. We do not have a climate of extremes here.

Nice job on the Mercedes Jack. I do like that paint scheme. Well done.

Clams get steamed or used in clam chowders of both varieties I know of (New England, a white chowder and Manhattan, a red chowder). Both are good, but I lean to New England style. Oysters can eaten raw, but I've only done that in places along the US Gulf Coast. The stuff better be fresh, newly harvested from the sea.

That looks like lots of fun.

Craig, go to YouTube and search on Hudson River ice boats, you will find dozens of videos of our boats. Look for the video with the Brass Band. The photos above are from March 2014, the last time we had foot thick ice on the river and the gathering with the Brass Band.  This year 2019-2020 was the year winter never arrived :(

I second that. We have Ivars out here that has built a business pretty much strictly out of clams over the last eighty something years. Possibly the best New England Clam Chowder anywhere!

I know oysters are eaten raw....but I don't partake.  but I also know clams are steamed and not eaten raw too......I love steamers.  the admiral turned me onto them after we got married......now she can't turn me off!   love a good chowder too.......the seafood festival at Hampton Beach is famous for it.  good we got to go last year.......haven't been to the beach since the admiral became disabled.  hope we get to do it again this year....can't wait!

Denis, I don't remember cuz I don't eat them. Not even steamed, not even in chowda !  All I remember is the guy who brought them up to us lives on Long Island and is a member of one of the ice boat clubs down there.

Well I must admit I doubt I could handle a steady diet of them, with the possible exception of good New England clam chowder, but they have the advantage that they do not run fast and as they are a herd animal, are relatively easy to catch.:D By the way, my wife agrees with you that they should not be in the food chain.

Denis, @popeye the sailor , does this bad boy count for a build log ? Built in 1906. Been over 2 years in restoration. Had to completely disassemble the backbone and re-glue and install all new screws. Likewise for the basket. Measures 32 feet in length.

After 4 months steaming the hide glue, and removing about 200 screws,  side planks removed from backbone.
