Spitfire Mk IXc - FINISHED - by cog - Eduard - 1/72 - PE & Plastic

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Another nice small model kit from Eduard. With this kit you can build six different version of the Mk IXc. The sprues have all necessary parts to build them. The supplied PE is mainly cockpit, and some vents. The cockpit is wll detailed and one could wonder if it is worth the effort on this scale. That's up to the builder, but it garantees some additional building pleasure. Parts look clean - not much cleaning up to do. On the web site from Eduard you can download digital building instructions if you rather work from a screen or like bigger size instructions

Well the mandatory box "art"

Cockpit does take a little while to get decorated, especially at 1/72. It is however doable, although, you might and up with a slight headache using your eagle eyes

These are quickies, Denis ... if you have all the required paints and things. Shouldn't take you much more than a couple of hours - untill you have to do acomplete PE/Resin/Plastic cockpit - it is rather straight for'ard

Loving those invasion stripes/bands, it had past my mind on mine as one of the schemes  - but mine would have had to be painted on by  hand  using dull white  Acrylic paint,   so I decided no to bother.

Thanks you for the likes gentlemen

Mask and paint by hand works too, OC. Actually, it is less work than mask for spraying. Then you would need to cover much more before you can start painting. It takes me an eternity compared to painting the plane!

And concerning the dull white: You would have to give her a coat of varnish anyway, to get the decals on properly. Thus, the dull white would not be dull white anymore ...

Thanks Dennis, it starts to look better. Finished the nose cone, propellah, and landing gear. Added some decals, still a few to go before I'm done with that. The remaining ones are really small, between 1 and 2 mm  sometimes I wonder if I did put some of those on!

I did paint on stripes Denis. As it would be rather silly not to. In all honesty, Initially I forgot and had them painted the base "belly colour", but realised I should have painted them with stripes. Checked the paint scheme, and added them by hand. By the way, I changed the prop from fixed to a turning one. That's why it's still not mounted. I did a wee bit of weathering, painted the exhaust (nearly forgot as well) ... final layer of varnish/lacquer ... would satin be the propper choice or gloss?

Carl I have seen both  Slightly shinny satin  with modern versions or those in museums,  but those in service I'm not sure about  (I assume they would be mat  with just heavy  use areas  slightly shinny)

what I usually go by,  is that most military aircraft aren't very shiny........with the exception of bare aluminum aircraft.  a satin would be the best bet...........in sunlight,  there is at least some sheen.   Olive Drab was the go to paint for our military because no matter how you looked at it........it was flat ;)   it was the same with the Navy......gray was the chosen color....but I'm sure your aware of that.  glad you did the stripes.......that would probably be something that I'd do.......why I mentioned it.    you did a great job.

You did an outstanding job on the invasion stripes! No matter the aircraft, they make the camouflage stand out even more.... It takes a lot of patience to get them straight...
