USS Thetis Bay 1944 by RGL - FINISHED - Hasegawa - 1/350 - PLASTIC

Thanks, the Hasegawa PE give you an option for a cover on the bridge that was unique to the Gambier bay or for all other types that Flyhawk doesn’t. Essentially the Hasegawa set is very limited but nicer with tighter tolerances. The Infini radar comes with turned brass pedestals and is hands down nicer. Both Flyhawk and Hasegawa continue with manufacturers making disjointed and confusing instructions which means using three sets took me three days and I’m still confused.

The result is magnificent

to be honest, i never thought about how good but unserviceable aircraft got back home, i need to read up on why this ship was used for it

the PE work looks fantastic

Its all part of Kev's journey, bit like going to the dark side, but with the lights on

There's interesting stories on all those escort carriers.  Smaller than "normal" carriers they were originally designed for convoy escort duty.   But they also filled other rolls with transporting aircraft from the States to remote islands and locations to returning them back for overhaul.  Wikipedia is a good place to start.  Maybe start with Gambier Bay or "escot carriers".

Hasegawa sells the stick on blue deck with some PE as an expensive aftermarket set. Not a hard action to stick in but if you removed the little bits to replace it with PE they are a tiny bit too small and leave the plastic deck visible. I’ll finish the PE tomorrow and do the deck markings including masking up the 90 for the deck then some weathering.

So I’ve added all the metal parts now, (mainly the arrestor gear stuff), and rubbed on the lines (the Hasegawa set has dry decals which I do like but you can’t mask over them as they lift. This I have a bit more painting to go because of that. Then masked up the ship number .

Great work Greg

It's funny though. In the "aerial" shots you used in this set, combined with not having the island as a reference, I found it hard to tell which end the bow was until after you applied the deck numbers.

it's already clear that it is going to be another nice looking ship.

I'm late to the party again Greg.  An interesting subject again; look forward to seeing more.  Looks like you are having a lot of fun with that airbrush this time around.
