good evening

rudder saga continues

at last i am 99% happy with the result, took far longer than it should, stopping and listening to the cricket test match didn't help, what a game

i dont know why it, it took so long all everything seamed to be in the right place until it can to matching the rudder to the stern post, and continually moving this or moving that, i am not painting the straps black, it seams to make it all to much (in yr face) i will let it tarnish with the rest of the plates

some tiles to replace, some more nails to insert and then i can move on

all the best

Rudder looks great Kevin !

Very nice job.

And thanks for the picture  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

animaatjes-sjors-94584.gif

thank you - i think that is possibly the worst part i have had to do so far, it doesn't take much to understand that if it isn't right, it affects the whole stern of the build, not painting the strap also means it doesn't stand out (dont look at me - lol here for a purpose only)

looks a bit tatty - but should look ok when tarted up

Looks great Kevin, you can probably rest easy because the straps would not have been black but some sort of cuprous alloy.  I'll be interested to see how the photo etch material ages compared to the copper.

Cheers,

Jason

Nice Kevin very nice.

Just a bit late but congrats on your promotion mate, seems I have to salute each and everyone at the moment.

I found the rudder quite difficult to fit because everything kept moving out of line, what you have done there my friend is a work of art.

I painted my straps copper so it's going to be interesting to see the changes.

Keep up the great work mate.

My condolences Mobbsie.  Perhaps you could talk with Commodore Sjors whom, I believe, is the only person holding sufficient rank to endow you with a 'field promotion'.

GOOD LUCK!

Good evening everyone

The rudder is finished, although i may just do the top strap again, the spectackle (or however you spell it will be done next time around, when i remember to do the chaser gun ports and chains

post-846-0-62600500-1374260794_thumb.jpgpost-846-0-45997700-1374260798_thumb.jpg

Gunport lids

yes i know she is a 1st rate, i know that cannons are there to be installed, but i had no intentions from the start to show everyone in position, most of the lower lids will be slighty open, 1/2 open on the middle gun deck, some fully open and some shut on the upper gun deck,

My reasoning behind this is the sails that is where i wanted to base my concentration on, and lol im still wanting to, at present i am ensuring that the lids are the right size and planking them to follow the lines of the hull.

very difficult to get a decent photo, this afternoon, very muggy/humid but to bright as well, paint work continues to bug me as well and the gloss acrylic reflecting the camera flash, might start again and go for the satin of the spray can

Fantastic work Kevin!  I just went back a few pages and looked at the shots taken outdoors...wonderful.  Yours is on of the builds I've been using as a guide for my coppering and I'm happy to say that, so far, my coppering looks a lot like yours.  If I can keep going as half as well as you have done, I'll be in good shape!

i am trying to improve my "how i did it photo- please bear with me"

after matching the lids against the cut-outs - i have followed the wale lins

post-846-0-76483900-1374397551_thumb.jpg

the hinges are attached, i have not made any jigs to do this, just cut down the qty made at any time to qty 5, as i dont have the pleasure of spending all day everyday on the build

post-846-0-40900800-1374397685_thumb.jpg

0.5 mm hole drilled for the two eyelets also helps keep the hinges in place as the pins go through the whole of the lid and glued on the back, as they will not be seen

the vents are just a bit of styrene with the etched part gued onto the end and attached between the hinges

post-846-0-75319300-1374397911_thumb.jpg

and finally the whole unit is spray pained, in matt black, i have done away with my black paint being brushed on, as it is allergic to flash photo's

post-846-0-55421000-1374398031_thumb.jpg

the top of the lid has been filed to an angle to allow gluing to the hull, it is to much to expected the lugs on the hinges to take the load by them selfs, i may pin any open lids into position, im just thinking ahead

So I guessed somewhat correctly...? You're attempting to capture a moment in history (real or imaginary it does not matter).... Rather than a stuffed-and-mounted display... a hint of activity, an implied movement.....
