After cleaning up my workspace, you could not get in the door from the stuff piled in the way, and doing some major cleaning I was able to work on my cross section some. I finnised the treenailing for what I had installed so far. Making treenails seems to be a good way to get back into things after being gone so long. After reviewing by prints I am printing out another set. These have layed around so long and been abused the scale was off and stains all over them. Will also be starting the deck beams over again. The ones I had cut were in the way when a drink was overturned that know one had told me about. So here is where I am now. Pete38 Posted October 25, 2015 Author Share #250 Posted October 25, 2015 While doing some more clean up in my room I came across some extra deck beams that I had already steamed and bent for the camber on the deck. They were still in good shape so this saved me some time. I had seen on other builds where the decks ere build piece by piece on the model and other where the deck was built as a unit off the model then installed. I will try to build mine on the modle piece by piece. My scale is big enough so it should allow me the room to work. Installed the firts beam. glued and pined it into place. I used a hot glue gun to temporarly place some blocks on the beam so as I would have a place for my clamps to work. I then pulled me som dowels to .040 dia to pin them in place on either side. These went all the way through the beam and in to the side boards. Dry fitted the dowel then applied glue, worked it in and removed the excess. This should hold them in place varly well. Started with some rough stock and resized it down with my Byrnes saw and Drum sander Layed out the patten with some 3M contact spray. (Sprayed only the paper patten and let dry for about 45 seconds to a minute) this way it will come off with out to much trouble with little or no residue then sawed them out with my scroll saw and sanded to the lines. Decided to notch all the way through the beam for these parts instead of a half lap. To big of a chance for me to break them off Started by using a hacksaw blade to notch them to almost full depth Then clamped a backing board so to limit any tear out while using a small chisel to remove most of the material Then used a file to make any final adjustment for the fit Glued and installed clamps, waiting for to dry to start other side Not much by slowly getting there. Started cutting the smaller beams for the lower deck, I had already sized the stock with my thickness planer to the proper width and height. I will update my log soon. I am really excited about this project and hope I don't neglect my schooner too much. A question though. How much meat should I leave on the frame parts for fairing?
