  1. I'm not really sure if those were served in real life or not Marc. It seems like sails that were used a lot, underwent constant maintenance, so whether or not the bolt-ropes were served would be a question for a more knowledgeable person than I. If I had to guess, I'd say not, because I can't recall ever seeing any running rigging that was served.
  2. I hope everything comes out OK as well Patrick! Oh crap!! That didn't come out right. Don't take it as a pun.
  3. Amazing stuff Danny! Especially the friezes. If you tell me that you didn't use 3 pair of eye-glasses (Fred Sanford style), a lighted magnifier, along with a microscope, I'll be really jealous.
  4. Wow -- that's a bummer Patrick. I hope you heal up quickly, and don't forget to follow the saw-bones' orders.
  5. Some good-looking barrels Jay! Can't wait to see it all come together!
  6. I like the old water-stone/leather strop method for my 750 Series Sweethearts.
  7. Sorry to hear about Angus Robb. I think most of us have all been there one time or another. Just like losing a member of the family, it's never easy.
  8. The coils look fine Brian, and add that bit of authenticity bringing it all together nicely.
  9. Doesn't look bad to my eye Mark. I know my first attempts at carving will be nothing short of laughable.
  10. Thanks for the link Ken. I'll be giving them a call this winter for sure.
  11. Beautiful work Ken. I can see a lot of guys that are wanting to build the Niagara, using this build log as a primer, since you've found the, shall we say, "short-comings" in the kit, and shown the how-to's in overcoming them. If you don't mind my asking, where do you source all of your assorted brass stock, such as wire, tubing, bars, and sheet-stock. I know it will be a handy thing to keep around once I start my MS Constitution, and the other builds as well of course. Cheers
  12. That is one heck of a job tree-nailing Bob. And 2 per beam instead of the normal 1 tree-nail. It's no wonder your hand has cramps. Don't cover that beautiful work up with paint though.
  13. It's interesting to see the hull being shaped during the design process Patrick. I think you're doing a fine job, and especially with no plans to reference.
  14. The gratings, deck, and tree-nailing look great Dave! Very nice!
  15. Congrats Boyd! I said exactly the same thing the first time I fired mine up. Quiet as a church-mouse. You'll be needing slitting blades for it, and where I went was Thurston Mfg in Rhode Island. They carry every blade Jeff at Hobbymill used when he was open, and for only around $10 apiece. I'm currently half-way there in saving for Proxxon's MF-70 Micro-Mill now, so on the 1st of November, I'll be the proud owner of that.
  16. For your first time trying carving, I think you did very well. I'm sure the next one will be a charm!
  17. That powder shelf will make an impressive addition to the detail Jay! Nice work! Cheers
  18. It's a shame you found all those flaws in the kit Ben, but maybe if you send pictures of them to the company that made it along with a note telling them you're a member here at MSW, they could be inclined to send some replacement parts, rather than deal with all the "bad press" they could get over it. Cheers
  19. Her Majesty is going to look great with those cabins setting on her deck Nenad. Nice work!
  20. She looks great with all her teeth in place and rigged Sal. Nice job!
