The ship's name and cutters turned out great Ken. She's a splendid looking model. I don't believe the sweeps would be visible when stowed, as they would no doubt be stowed below the spar deck, keeping it uncluttered, so you probably don't need to make those.

US Brig Syren by Gahm - Model Shipways
GLakie replied to Gahm's topic in - Kit build logs for subjects built from 1801 - 1850
That must have pained you greatly having to paint those beautiful brass carronades Thomas. I know what you mean about measuring the drawings and making the other barrels work. That also works in reverse as the 1:76 scale 24 lb. cannon on my kit are the same size as Chuck's 12 pounders in 1:64 scale. So those will work for the long guns. Still looking to source some brass carronades though. -
Glad to see you're back in the shipyard Patrick!

You did a real fine job with the copper-plating Jesse. Not sure what to tell you on a sealer, as like Jason said, there are a lot of different ideas out there. One thing you could do is to ask one of the Masters here like Chuck, Danny, or EdT. I'm sure they could steer you in the right direction.

Transmission's probably OK Nenad. The parts in the picture are the clutch-disc and pressure-plate. Just replace those, the thrust-bearing, and adjust the clutch properly, you should be fine. I've fixed many in my time. Trust me. Unless you heard a lot of grinding or banging, the transmission should be fine.- 4,152 replies

The castings turned out nice Dave. A method I think I'll but in the old "memory-banks" for future reference.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
