That's a beautiful model, John, with lots of interesting details. Congratulations! I'm looking forward to following your Bowdoin build.

Let me know if you ever make to northern California. It's a great place but climate change is wreaking havoc on all of the beautiful, western USA. It's terribly sad. 😪 Don't give up on it if at all possible. The older I get, the more precious each moment seems! The Canadian Rockies are stunning. I've only hiked in the Lake Louise area and it was fantastic although hiking in grizzly bear country was a bit unsettling!

The bike made it out ok except for some minor scrapes which actually do bother me. It's my dream bike which I got 2 years ago: a Project OneTrek Émonda SLR 9 with the SRAM AXS groupset. I love this bike so much! I've cracked ribs and injured cartilage several times before in mountain bike crashes years ago so, unfortunately, I know the drill. It takes a long time for these kind of injuries to heal. My brother-in-law is a retired physician and he gave me the go ahead to start riding moderately even though it's uncomfortable as long as the pain doesn't increase a lot. I've been going stir crazy so I feel like I just got bailed out of jail!

Oh, I know this pattern all too well. I'm an avid cyclist but, unfortunately, I just had my first ever hard, road bike crash 2 weeks ago. I hit some uneven pavement at high speed going downhill and the front tire pinch flatted instantly and down I went. Man, the pavement is unforgiving! My left knee, hip pointer, wrist, elbow and shoulder plus road rash have all healed up but my left rib cage is still very sore. My head actually bounced on the pavement. Thank God for a good helmet! It's driving me crazy being off my bike this long but I have lots of time now to watch Le Tour de France everyday!

I love boats like this so I'll be following along. Good luck! -
Beautiful model. I am always so impressed with the level of detail that is possible to obtain in card models. I might just have to try one sometime.

Thanks very much, Paul. The Medway was a big step up for me. I'm afraid I've become an armchair modeler simply following quite a few other builders' logs. I have too many passions and I've been immersed in guitar and cycling lately. I'll be back in the shipyard at some point soon I hope. I do miss it.

I just got caught up on your build log, Glenn, and WOW...just plain WOW!! 😳 I'm not sure there's much more praise to offer that others haven't already given, but I will say that your build log is the best and most informative log I've had the pleasure to follow on this forum. It's a treasure trove of detailed techniques with outstanding photos as well. I think I can safely shelve most of my ship modeling books now and simply refer to your log when I need advice! Congratulations on the completion of this stunning model and many thanks for taking the time to document your build in such detail. I'll be the first in line for the show when you start building the Flirt. I have it on the shelf and, when I start to build her, I'll just follow along in your wake! Cheers!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
