  1. Fantastic build log, James! One of the things I love about this model is how much detail there is. At the same time, so much of the detail in the lower decks is covered up once the model is complete. Can you actually see much looking down through the main deck openings to the deck below with all the canons and the stove etc?
  2. I never seen one of these steaming machines before. What things have you found it useful for?
  3. Please do! I'm very interested in both. I just looked at the photos of your LeTigre and HMS Swan dioramas and they are incredible! The dioramas add action to the model and really brings the ship to life. WOW!! Modifying the Sphinx into the HMS Camilla and placing it into a diorama will be amazing! I sure Chris will be thrilled with it too! Here are links to hollowneck's fantastic dioramas in the MSW Gallery:
  4. I hope you will make a build log, Ron, I'd love to see your build with the changes that you're considering and the construction of the diorama. Do you have any photos of your builds and dioramas available anywhere?
  5. Good choice, Hake, it looks great and adds some nice detail to the mast top!
  6. I really like the Alaskan Yellow Cedar as well. I've only worked with some small pieces of boxwood and it holds an edge very well. I think the color variation is rather attractive in your planking as a whole also. Have you decided to continue on with your Flirt build?
  7. Sorry if I'm being a bit dense but, just to clarify, when you say that you bevel the top edge of the entire plank, does the bevel looks more like the chamfer in the diagram I posted or the bevel in the diagram? Is the bevel just on the top, inside part of the plank or does the bevel start at the top, inside edge and go all the way to the bottom, inside edge of the plank? I hope that makes sense!
  8. Gorgeous boat, Marino! So colorful and festive!
  9. Closer to the refrigerator with cold, adult beverages too!
  10. I'm onboard for this one too, Jeff. These CAF models a truly intriguing.
  11. That's going to be an impressive model, Yves! What are the overall dimensions?
  12. Thanks, Glenn. I've never clearly understood the difference between a bevel and a chamfer. I did some research and found the following illustration. So I'm assuming that you bevel as shown below. Do you just guess at the degree of the angle of the bevel and does the angle change as the planking continues?
  13. It looks like very small differences in the tapering build up as you go along. The difference is so small that I think you could probably make the correction with the next plank so they match on both side and you wouldn't even be able to notice it when the planking is completed. I've never planked a hull using tick marks and this method of tapering each plank but I am going to try it out soon. I've just kind of done my own thing and worked with the planks until I got them to fit pretty well but without a defined method. Do you only taper the top edge of the plank and then leave the bottom edge entirely straight? Have you had to chamfer the top edge of the planks to help avoid any gaps between the the planks? If you do chamfer, do you chamfer the entire length of the plank or just chamfer the length of the section of the plank where the gap is?
  14. Well that's a bummer about the primer. I think you will have to remove the primer and prime it again with a different product. Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with primers for plastic so, hopefully, some of the plastic modelers here will offer some advice. I've had paint compatibility problems before where I had to remove the paint and start over. It's a pain but it was necessary. Good luck! Also, just for your information, I clicked on the link for your Anteo Harbor Tug and it takes you to your U-Boat 47 build.
  15. Fantastic work, Hake! You are doing a great job on this legendary vessel!
  16. I'm following along too, Chris. I'm fascinated by these card models especially after seeing the astoundingly beautiful card models that Doris has built.
  17. Nice work, Newbie! This is such and unusual and interesting ship!
  18. Wonderful work, mate! What book or source are you using for the detailed drawings you have posted?
  19. That's an impressive looking model, Blunty! She looks great so far. I'm familiar as well with how frustrating the vague AL instructions can be but you seem to be doing just fine regardless.
  20. I'm onboard to watch this build, Yves. This should be a very special model. Good luck!
